Oh dear friends....a nasty review of the Poly is in on the Poly thread...why, oh why??? Furthermore, why am I so affected by negative reviews?? Every resort gets them, and I totally focus on them. :worried:

Oddly enough, I want to stay at the Poly now more than ever, because I know DH wants to so badly....I'm just hoping and praying for the best....:wizard:

Oh and, (I think I can say this here), but it annoys me how if someone says something negative about the Poly, they are jumped on or the attention is diverted. Poly die-hards are a loyal bunch. :duck:

ETA: I just came across another review by this particular poster...apparently she also stayed at OKW on this trip and says that it too was FILTHY, and DISGUSTING....this is how she describes both resorts...sounds like she either had a really bad experience or just likes to complain...yikes!!!! Grain of salt I guess, grain of salt....

Try not to dwell on one bad review.:worried: Tripadvisor also has mixed reviews of the Poly, but you are right in that some people may like to complain, or look for the negative. For us it was the overall feeling of the Poly that hooked us, the tropical feeling, the smells (not mildew :lmao:), the views, everything! :) It does sound like the poster is exaggerating just a tad, but maybe that is how she views things. Heck some people view life like that. What can you do?? Do not worry!

Oh yes, I know the Poly takes a beating on tripadvisor. :headache:
But, I keep telling myself that it still ranks higher than every resort we've stayed at on Disney property to this point, and we have had great stays at all. :yay:

Think good thoughts for me tomorrow. We are trying a new chemo, 2 of the past 3 protocols have put me in the hospital. This is a different kind, a targeted agent, so we are hoping I can tolerate it. So, I will probably be off DIS for at least a few days.

Sarah my friend  my thoughts and prayers are always with you  I pray for yo always and I hope your body accepts this drug witout making you sick  Chemo is horrible, I can only imagine....but I will be thinking happy thoughts of you, me and HRH enjoying our tea & scones at RPC in Sept :goodvibes

Sarah, you are in my thoughts and heartfelt prayer today. Gentle hugs.

I'm taking a vote - should I...

1. Change back to all 13 nights WL/CL

2. Change back to the one bedroom at VWL for 5 nights prior to WL/CL

3. Keep it as is with CR/BLV for 5 nights and WL/CL for 8

4. Change back to all WL or split with VWL and keep checking for BLT one bedroom availability

5. None of the above?!

I'm leaning toward #4, which DH and I would be very happy with, but DD would think is too long to spend at one resort (she's antsy:hyper:).

popcorn::

But, I thought you were the one that said you would have kept the 13 nights WL/CL:confused3. I think you used the word "Dreamy..."

So sorry about your EXTRA crummy Friday. So people started celebrating Cinco de Mayo Friday after midnight? What's wrong with people? Your vacation can't come soon enough.
My vote is for #4...Am I too late...:lmao: what am I saying, never too late :)

The combo of the Silver moon, Cinco del Mayo and Prom night..have I mentioned, NONE of my kids will be allowed to go to prom :faint: In 15 days I will be on my way...so It's all good...just keep swimming ::yes::
I did it! I just booked our fall trip! Holy moly - SOOOO excited. I booked 7 nights at the Beach Club!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

We have never stayed here. Now, can I keep it from my kids until September?
I was attempting a surprise trip. MyDD knows, pretty much. I didn't confirm it, but she knows me too well. Good luck with the surprise....it'll be worth it!!!!

Probably that poster just exaggerates...no worries Candace, Poly has lots of love. Deena will be back soon with a review. She was upgraded and seemed happy :woohoo:

I was pricing out WL and Poly (yes again) I am hopeless. DH came home saying he is SO happy we are going to HRH, so what can I do??? I will keep him happy, but I hear ya about TA, HRH is like #23 right above WL so it'll be fantastic :) Hang in there!!!

I was watching Undercover Boss over the weekend and 2 episodes were about budget resorts in the UK - but honestly, as I watched housekeeping clean the rooms and teach the newbie what was necessary, all I could think of is that I know Disney does not require the same of housekeeping and it is a real shame. Both shows were about budget resorts and the cleanliness was fantastic.

I have not had a really clean room at any Disney resort in more years than I can remember. I just accept it now, take along wipes and clean off everything in sight.;)

Grain of salt, yes, but I tend to believe many Disney guests have gotten used to the lower level of housekeeping and just let it go.

So, I say go, but be prepared... call housekeeping, if necessary. It is time for a Poly refurb and more room issues are usually found in any resort due for refurb.:thumbsup2

Minnie,
May I say how much I am enjoying reading your pre-trip report? Such fun! :cool1:

I totally agree about bring wipes. :thumbsup2
I switched from hand sanitizer to wet ones in the individual foil packets a couple of years ago. They are so handy-safe for hands, but also great for a fast clean up. If I find something really amiss, I'll call housekeeping. But, if I can just quick take care of something with a wet ones, I'm on my way and problem solved.
I really like them on planes, too--those tray tables aren't always pristine. :rotfl:

I didn't see anyone divert or jump on her. :confused3 It was acknowledged and sympathies were given. Another poster pointed out that no resort is immune to some overlooked rooms and areas. I thought everyone was friendly and sympathetic.

Gwynne, how sweet of you to say that! It is not a typical ptr - we are all over the place! LOL I haven't even added an intro yet... have one written, just didn't get around to adding it. :thumbsup2

Oh YES, about wipes on the plane! I have a pkg of wipes with me at all times - wipe off every restaurant table, chair and menu. :rotfl: Not taking any chances - I am super careful...although some may disagree, wouldn't say I'm extreme. :rotfl2:

It was handled nicely, I thought too. Really like when DISers do not jump on the person who was disappointed in the resort. I didn't think her complaints were out of line - we shouldn't be able to write in the dust. lol OKW was probably the same because Disney housekeeping does the minimum now ...I've had rooms that clearly were not even vacuumed between guests...or those vacuum cleaners are overworked and worn out. ::yes::

The only really bad experience I've had at a resort was WL. I'd still be open to trying it again after the room rehab is complete this year. Perhaps next year when it is just me, my kids, and my mom after the cruise. I don't know if the resort manager was different back in '08 but he was very unapologetic for our disastrous experience and it kind of left a bad taste with me.

christine Thought I missed your intro on your PTR...kept looking for it :rotfl:

Oh My Candace! :scared1: dare I go look???? I guess I'll just take it with a grain of salt too. there is too much love for the POLY for it to be that bad....Deena seems to be loving her trip, Dani gives it much praise and love, as does Padawan...many people whose opinions I respect, so I will keep my fingers crossed this is a case of 1 out of hundreds who wasn't satisfied.
I'll go read it now!

JC: Prayers sent your way today think happy WDW thoughts and may your treatment go smoothly!

I think when management does not respond properly it does leave a bad taste. I did not expect to like VWL as much as I did - the studio was in very good shape, very clean and management was phenomenal when we contacted them about an issue. It was because of the CM's that I was won over and look forward to returning.

That said, we spent just a day in a regular Lodge room and did not like it at all - but never cared for the dull blue and brown decor. The previous decor was so nice, warm and homey feeling - very much the great northwest. From seeing photos of a newly refurbished room, will enjoy a stay there for our RC January weekend.:thumbsup2 Rooms are small though...and those hallways so narrow! Guess I've been spoiled by the Poly, CR and GF!;)

Yeah, I dread added an intro - you won't believe the ONLY photo I have..:sad2: I have asked our RCer with a knack for clever words to help and she has graciously agreed to help. Maybe by the weekend...if the trip is still in the works by then.:worried:

Truly, I think if we love a resort, we'll let some things go that we might complain about at another resort. Overall, Disney needs to improve housekeeping - it changed when they outsourced. Clean or not, I will never feel the same love for another resort as I do for the Polynesian. :lovestruc

Yeah, I think I'd be happier if I didn't see that one!!! :rolleyes2

I'm ok though, for now...;)
