As the Ticker Turns...the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

For us, the best moments were the small things. DD loved the splash zone areas in AK and Epcot! She would have been totally content if we did nothing else! Another great moment was when we were waiting for our delicious caramel popcorn in Germany and because it was taking a bit longer than expected we all got free chocolate dipped marshmallows. We swam every afternoon which was always great. It's an essential part of our vacation. We got to the bus stop early because Epcot was having morning EMH and most folks were not up yet. We accomplished future world in about 3 hours! And the dining plan was nice in the sense that the meals were essentially paid for. Like you said though, it's a ton of food! And the toe thing is just :sad2: -- some people are just unbelievable. QUOTE="pas130;52293078"]pigletgirl So sorry about your toe!! Hope you are feeling better, OUCH

People often say to wait until kids are older but my kids loved the small things too! It is what you will always remember as well. Let me tell you when your kids leave for college it is those fond memories that keep a mom sane.:lovestruc

My daughter lost a toenail just before a trip last year and was pretty miserable. Hope yours heals fast!

For food I use my disney visa earned money. It gets put on a gift card and works great in the parks.

No pressure just if you have a picture you want to share you can PM me. Love seeing the little ones!

pigletgirl :rotfl2: A souvenir. ..I like when you say it's the little moments..it really is. The excitement on a bus ride...my kids LOVE Innoventions :goodvibes DTD at the Lego store..it's all wonderful family memories

Spent more money there than anywhere else!:rotfl:

It was the only thing ds truly loved:love:

How about when they fall asleep on you on the bus at the end of a great day?:goodvibes

I still love when mine fall asleep on me at the end of the day. Now they are too big to be in my lap. I still love it when they lean over and fall asleep on my shoulder.

Oh, I decided not to knit the Santa hats. I think I'm going to just buy us both Mickey Santa hats instead.

I'm just knitting away and when I get done with this one I'll start another scarf. It's one of those I'm sad about something, can't do anything about it, so I'm knitting things. I think I told y'all my sister's Beagle (Holly GoLightly) has Cancer and only has a few months left. Well, my sister's Irish Wolfhound (Clancy) started limping and she found a lump under one of his legs. She took him to the doctor and he has Cancer as well. My heart is just breaking for my sister and bil. Two of their three babies have Cancer.

Love the sleeping on the bus, one gets struck everytime! They have a blast at the Lego store and making Mr. Potato heads but Legos are the best. Time to get a snack/drink and relax

Okay, I've changed resorts 3 times and I haven't even made the reservations yet...lol. I keep trying to figure out where I want to stay. Obviously, I'm thinking it's going to be okay if I decide after I make the reservation to make some changes.

I do have one question: looking at dates from this year my dates next year should fall under the free dining promotion (October timeframe). When making the reservation, what's the best way: do I make a RO reservation in a category and at a resort I want to stay at and then wait until later next year (in this year's case May timeframe) to add tickets and dining or do I make my reservation including tickets and dining and then once the promotion comes out see if I can apply the free dining to my existing reservation.

I've thought about waiting until the promotion comes out to make the reservation but I'm actually trying to budget as if I don't have the dining and then if I can save a significant amount of money I may switch resorts once the promotion comes out. But, if I end up deciding that I'd really like a certain resort whether I get the promotion or not, then I don't want to risk the room category being gone by the time the promotion comes out.

If it makes any difference, I'm actually thinking that I'd like to stay deluxe so I just don't know how many of those rooms/resorts are under free dining

Personally, once I'm set on a date for the trip, I can't wait to book. The dates for our last trip, were historically dates for FD. I just couldn't wait to book though. I just booked a package. If FD was released, I was good and if it wasn't, we had a plan for that as well. As soon as it was released, I called and added the FD promo to our ressie. I did have to change resorts though. The only room category for the resort we had booked was one my DH wasn't willing to pay for. It worked out in the end because we fell in love with the AKL.

I have a list of resorts (my top 3) and I think I'd be happy at all of them so I guess I'm gonna book and then know in the back of my mind that I'd be willing to change if I can apply a promotion at a later date.

I'll tell you though that I've researched a resort I think I want to stay at, love everything about it, then think I might want to stay at another, research that, love everything about that resort and it goes on and on. I guess that's the fun of planning right.

Hello all from the monorail!
En route to CR for a swim before MNSSHP

So far lots of pixie dust and magic timing. DD1 has had some amazing character moments and I am so glad we bought MM.

Will update tomorrow on our `down` day!

*hugs to all*

I just love the live update - continue having a wonderful time!!!!

I still love when mine fall asleep on me at the end of the day. Now they are too big to be in my lap. I still love it when they lean over and fall asleep on my shoulder.

I'm just knitting away and when I get done with this one I'll start another scarf.

+1 to the comment regarding teenagers. :) And your scarf is fabulous - thanks for sharing the photo!!!

Thank you

I'm the same! Booked our January stay a couple months ago: AKL/GF/BWI. But I just checked our BWI dates (thinking of possible change from CL to deluxe CL) and BWI is entirely sold out for marathon weekend! We're booked already, but I've yet to be in a situation where the discount is released and I can't apply it to my reservation . . . until now! So hopefully, something changes at BWI and we can apply a room only discount. But if not, we might just stay at GF RPC - assuming a 30% discount, GF with discount is less expensive than BWI without!

As much as I'm sure we'll love RPC, I really love BWI and it's so convenient to Epcot. YC is entirely booked and I can't take a chance on BC for marathon weekend because of the balcony situation. Maybe an AKL/GF split is in the cards for us. It would make race transportation easy (monorail.) We're all running the 5K, then my husband runs the half and I run the full. It would definitely be easier to watch our runners from GF. Hard to wait! And then the RC would cause ADR changes . . .

My first change for my "not-yet-booked" 2015 trip...date change. Thanks to some wise RC friends..we will brave the heat and do August again..I have tentative dates, but I have to wait and see when DH has to get off of work..NEW TICKER TIME :rotfl:

YAY for tentative dates!

Yay for tentative plans:cool1:

Somebody needs to add me to page one please. Poly CL 11/18-21!!

I have only a few days to plan out my FP+s. Bookable on Thursday. Mom says she will trust me so I am doing rope drop stand by and FP for after appetizers. 5-6,6-7,7-8 kind of thing. That works pretty good with CL and you're back in time for desserts :thumbsup2!

Also Blueskies will be there so I am finally getting a dis -meet too:yay:

Happy weekend. Stood in the rain 3 hours to watch XC. Ds took 2.5 minutes off his time vs last year(that is really good).:woohoo:

Oh, fun! A November trip!

piglet - I am so glad your trip was good! That is super stinky about your toe but the crazy people at Disney are beyond annoying!!! ((seriously, I've almost lost my cool a few times -- I mean, watch your darn kids!!!))

I hope that the memories you have were magical and that you can watch your little princess grow on future visits with this start!

FD in deluxe seems easier to snag than mods because mods are the better 'value'... but it all comes down to how many rooms a resort is willing to offer. Hope you snag a good one!

wookie - so sorry for your sister!!!

We are taking a break after an MK morning and before heading to EP so I figured I'd do a mini update!

~ WL - beautiful and serene! The pool work is fast and furious (they have already moved walls!) but we are facing Villas so don't even notice. Love location of Roaring Forks when heading to boats (though wish they would put a refill station on bus side). Also, Villas pool has worked most of the time but we have ventured to CR and BB for short trips - mostly to check them out. DD7 did Summit Plummet but I was too freaked when we got to the top!!!

~ We all agree 7DMT is super cute but needs about another 15-30 seconds of ride! We just get into it and it's over. Back is so crazy compared to front and night riding is amazing!!!

~Wait times on Sunday and Monday were non-existent but today has been crazy! Also, the heat is really higher than anyone expected so lots of grumpy people. Still, we maxed our MK time on Sunday and during MNSSHP so today we took it easy and hit the last few we wanted, got DD7's E&A moment, AND found the toddler Elsa she has been DYING for!

~MNSSHP - really fun but you do have to decide which two of the three things you want to do: rides, characters, parades/events. We tried to do all three and ended up giving up on characters (we missed 100 Acre friends twice and had a snotty CM so we decided to make our own magic on rides). Madame Carlotta and Renata in front of HM MADE the night... I would've watched them for hours (seriously, YouTube them... totally hilarious). Ride lines were LOW and we had a blast at the Monsters Dance Party.

~DD1 has been amazing this trip; very easy-going and handling the heat well. DD7 has done well, too, but it's hard as she wants to do EVERYTHING. While the rest of our group was weirded out by Talking Mickey, DD1 loved it and giggled her heart out.

~Overall, it's been a great trip! We loved Boma (AMAZING food!!!), enjoyed seeing the campfire at FW, have had some amazing character interactions (Mad Hatter and Rapunzel were great!) and, the best pixie dust: We were Flag Family on Tuesday! So amazing!!!

Off to see if F&W is doing a soft opening and finish EPCOT! Tomorrow is Akerhaus and Frozen Fun!!! *HUGS* to all and thanks for the great advice to help make this trip magical!!! :grouphug: :flower3:

Yes, I agree! It feels secure to be booked. :)

Dimd - hope your trip is going well! Has your DD1 found out about Japan yet? Hope this trip is magical and you have great family time. :)

What's a flag family? We opened AK one year and loved that. Well except for the part the kids had to carry a case with spiders:rotfl:

So much to do and so little time, right? I have to wake up tonight at 12am to book my FP+ for my mom. I woke up last night only to find out I was off by a day:eek:

:goodvibes Hello to my RCer Family!

Well, as you may or may not know, my youngest son (18) Andrew got accepted to the Canadian Forces so he will be sworn into the Military on October 10 and shipped out to basic training October 18th.
Very excited for his new life adventure :) My son has said that we (DH and I) absoulutely MUST accompany him and his GF to Disney THIS coming summer when he gets his leave. Probblem is, we don't know when that might be yet. First he has to get through basic training in St Jean , Quebec (tentative graduation barring any injury or recourse is FEB 6) then he gets sent to his training base in Borden, Ontario to await start of a course to begin his trade training which is a year long. It probably won't be until FEB/March when I might get a glimpse of when his summer leave block might be.

I NEVER wanted to do Disney in the summer! the heat and crowds are real issues for me, but my DS begged me to come with him and if I want to share this trip with him , I'll have to suck it up and go in the summer! I am thinking it will most likely be sometime late July or perhaps in August. I told him to get it as late in August as possible...but you know the military, it will be when they tell him he can have leave! I don't like leaving planning so late, wish I could book something now! but as I mentioned, it won't likely be until FEB./March before I know much of anything.

My hope is to stay BC club Level. hopefully by Summer 2015 the refurb will be complete, and with the summer heat, I definitely want to stay Club Level! and BC/stormalong bay/ walk to Epcot/ Boat to DHS would be one of the best choices for us I think!

Hopefully I'll be starting to plan along with you all soon! It's been 5 yrs. since DH has been back to WDW, despite the heat, I will bear it to share time with my son and husband in my favourite place!!
hopefully I have enough time to still plan a decent trip once I know the dates my son will be able to go!

Marie

Such exciting news in your family:goodvibes

Congrats on raising such a nice young man.

Don't be afraid of a summer trip. Get up for RD and leave 11-11:30ish. Have a nice sit down lunch then head to your resort. Use your fpp for night time like 6-7,7-8,8-9. That way you are only out when the weather is coolest. :thumbsup2

Hey your kid wants you and that is the best. :lovestruc

Trishadono, hoping for a full report from you after you return from Poly!! Since my post the other day about possibly switching from the sold-out, unlikely to offer discounts BWI for marathon weekend, I've changed three times in my mind. As the above post suggests, was thinking of staying at GF. Then convinced we needed to switch to WL deluxe. Then noticed discounts for those particular rooms are usually tiny, and now I'm thinking it's going to be Poly. Of course, my concern is the construction, but you know how that goes. Would likely switch to Poly CL GV, but waiting for those discounts . . . and looking forward to your updated report!

Because AKL is gorgeous!!!! Speaking of being soooo ready to book..hoping to announce some 2015 vacation news Monday!

:welcome: FD financially usually works out as a better discount with the mods, leaving some availability in the Deluxes. Rack rate is crazy, so depending on where you are booking and how long your trip is. Sometimes a % off then adding on dining works better. Just a thought...I don't count as normal since we have to book 2 rooms which makes FD not as much of a discount :rotfl: The planning is SO much fun, and it sounds like you are exactly where you need to be with the rest of us friendly changers:thumbsup2 Soooooo what resorts are top 3????:hyper:

Also a GREAT cure for post Disney blues ;)

Marie
Welcome home Marie  So happy for your DS, and summer is just fine...it's hot but it can be hot anytime. Plus...BC that pool...perfect escape for the heat. The parks are open late so you can do pool during the day> Family time at Disney..and DH gets to finally get back there! AWESOME:woohoo:

:wave2: hello everyone :goodvibes. Has it been only 2 weeks:confused3 since I was in WDW!!! Ugh. I'm sorta unpacked :rotfl:
I wrote a brief TR of our GF stay on the GF thread. So without repeating, we had a great stay there. RPC rocks, didn't want to leave but only 2 nights of our stay was RPC!! Upgrade from SL :wizard:

Enjoyed visits with Janet & Linda. Love our ToT pic!! Thanks ladies for convincing me to get the DAS. :thumbsup2. Was it hot or what :scared1:

Thinking about next trips, of course. What does a WDW addict do when they return but start planning next trip :rotfl:

So January prob will be POR. then August thinking about a Poly visit, as that's where we originally planned to stay this past August untill we jumped ship to GF!! But I do like YC too!!! Maybe a split :confused3 but I do like to just unpack and stay in one place these days. we used to always do split stays in August, getting old & lazy I guess,

In a week going in for my Knee Replacement surgery so may be MIA for awhile!

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday afternoon. We're just doing house work and watching college football.

My toe is s-l-o-w-l-y healing. I'm currently only wearing flip flops and I'm hoping this thing starts to get a move on! I'd love to start wearing my boots! :)

Sue - Best wishes for your knee surgery! Keep us posted on how things are progressing. We will be thinking about you.

Well -- we've been booked on a bounce back offer for less than a week (6 days to be exact) and we are already changing things!

My father has a close friend who owns a cabin on the Kenai River in Alaska. The last two weeks of July is the Salmon run and he has asked my father and husband if they would like a boys fishing trip. They couldn't say no! What this does mean though is that DH cannot take time off work for our September trip. I discussed this at length with my mom and she suggested we keep the reservation, and have just us girls go! I think we'll still take DD (she's still free, so cost of her won't be an issue). She asked me if I wanted to upgrade to a Deluxe (thinking Boardwalk or Wilderness) and I of course was fine with that if she was paying, haha.

Anyway, I'm very happy for DH and this opportunity for him, but it does really change my planning (makes it much easier!)...

So now I'm googling the Deluxe resorts to see if this is something we really want to invest in.

Hmmm.... :)

Wasn't it fun for our little meet!?!? And yes it was HOT!!! I keep saying no more summer in Florida for me but those late August rates are so good! :rotfl2:

Just thought I would pop in to say hello. I'll get caught up on the weekend tomorrow. My weekend was either playing World of Warcraft or dealing with the iPhone 6. Let's just say I need a Disney trip after this iPhone mess. They worked on getting my son's traded in for my new phone for hours. I got in line at the store at 5 AM, they started working on it at 8 AM (right when the store opened). We finally got his phone ready to trade in about 2 PM, and I was walking out of the store, without a phone (although my son had his 6) at 2:30 because I needed to pay an additional $70 and my DH took all forms of payment out of my wallet the night before (without my knowledge) so I would not go spend crazy without him being there. I finally got it on Saturday. It was a mess all thanks to my teenage son and his Dory like memory. I hope y'all had a less frustrating weekend.
