.. a woman pointed to her friend and said, "riding that scooter is why she is such a fat a$$!" I was so p'od that I shot back a really nasty comment that EVERYONE I am sure in the Lobby heard. To all of you innocent bystanders, I apologize, the the offending woman, you heard me. LOL.

Sorry you had that happen it's an awful thing for someone to say. I had it happen in a super Walmart near my house a family of four basically followed me around the store with the father making similar comments. I left the store I would have run the moron over if I hadn't left

That's just horrible. DH and DD10 both have a disability and life is hard enough for them without the nasty remarks they sometimes get. People can be so cruel

That is horrible. My daughter and I have experienced comments before. She doesn't always look disabled, but we have the handicapped parking and she does have a wheelchair, so the looks and comments are continous. I'm sorry that they said that.

It is good to hear that others understand this type of discrimination. She was lucky that I couldn't get up or I might have done something stupid like smash her face in. Lol.

This kind of hatefulness honestly breaks my heart. How can that woman even sleep at night? If I even thought, for a split second, that I had hurt someone's feelings (purposely or inadvertently) I would not rest until I tried to find a way to apologize, even if it meant tracking that person down.

Breaks my heart to read as well. I'm SO sorry to the OP and others that get those kinds of comnments and looks. I'm not in a scooter or wheelchair but I'm very over-weight. I eat very, very little but you can imagine what people might say if you take a bite of a Mickey bar or cookie. Just as a treat at WDW. This last trip I didn't even try a Mickey bar though all I could eat would be one or MAYBE 2 ears. I was afraid of the looks because afterall, I MUST eat like that all the time to be so big.

Gosh...what an insensitive and mean comment! I'm glad you had the nerve to tell her something as she knew darned well that you heard her! The old saying " walk a mile in my shoes" comes to mind. I can't imagine anyone using a scooter that doesn't need one first of all as they are NOT a fun way to get around, and it's no ones business why you need one either. I went after a woman one time....literally...I turned my chair around and tracked her down...when she made rude, insensitive, and ignorant comments to me about my service dog, so I know how you feel to be misjudged, and in front of other Guests too! Some people seem to think if you are disabled in any way, you must be deaf, too. When my DS8 was 2 yrs. old, he broke his leg badly and had to be in wheelchair for 3 months. People were always kind, but they talked very loudly to him. It was strange. He even asked why people were always shouting at him. OP, sorry you had to encounter such classless, clueless people on your vacaton, but it sounds like you've got a good attitude and handled yourself well.
