Took a romantic trip to Vegas with my sweetie and decided to try this "carryon bag only" craze that every one is latching on too.

Said in my best Scarlett O'hara imitation: "As God is my witness I'll never go without 2 pair of shoes again"!!

Some findings:

1) this wash your undies & shirts out in the sink movement is waaaay overrated. Or maybe I just sweat too much. ;) Sorry, coming back to your room and having to wash out your white shirt because you need it in 24 hours to go with the preplanned dinner outfit really does kill the "spontenity" (sp)

2) Maybe I need a 12 step program but yes, I really do need a pair of strappy sandals. Sorry that cute little dress just doesn't have the same "look" with a pair of black comfortable flats.

3) No matter how many tops I paired my black pair of jeans with, I was still wearing the same thing 3 days in a row. I know, no one here knows me but hey why can't I want to look nice all for my lonesome.

So I'm throwing in the towel, I'll eat lunch at my desk and budget in the fees because when I go to Paris in May, the only thing I'm hanging over the shower curtain rod will be the shower curtain.

;)

Had to do carryon only on our last Vegas trip too (flights out of Atlanta cancelled for snow!!). NEVER AGAIN!! Yes, you are right, there is always a need for more than 1 pair of shoes. DH still doesn't get it, he thinks it was great to not have to worry about luggage. I say, I want to look good when we actually get away just the 2 of us!

So I am right there with you!

I can easily get 3 dressier work outfits AND three sets of undies plus a nightie into a 22" carryon, plus one pr. of shoes (stuffed with the undies), a 3-1-1 toiletry bag, and my laptop and power brick. That gives me 4 outfits for the trip, including the one I wore to travel in. Jeans and thick sweaters are not part of my travel wardrobe. If I need to bring a fleece for outdoors I squish it in a ziploc if I can't wear it on the plane. I only wash out undies every 3 days, not nightly. (I prefer to do them while in the shower in the morning, actually.)

What kinds of puffy things are you people packing that you're taking up so much space? ;)

LOL I have done a lot of things in the shower but never washed my undies:banana:

Reminded me of that movies "some like it hot" with Jack Lemmon and Tony curtis, there was a scene where Jack Lemmon is washing his socks in the bath tub with him while in drag. :rotfl:

Frankly, my dear - I don't give a... oops! I mean - okay, I'll do the 'one carry-on' thing. But I'll buy my toiletries when I arrive; and since I "know" Las Vegas, I'll drop my clothes at a wash&fold laundromat during my trip.

Okay, really I won't. I'll bring the ratty old (but clean! in case I get in an accident!) underwear I save for vacations and throw it away; yes, I really will stop at Walgreen's and pick up full-size shampoo & conditioner; and, well, JetBlue allows me one checked bag free.

I'm having a hard time with one bag for our upcoming cruise. Spirit is charging $30 per bag, so I just have to do it. They charge $15-$20 for a carryon :scared1: I was thinking about washing out undies in the sink, too - now i'm thinking I'll get the laundry done - we're on vacation! I have to bring my own toiletries - I have very sensitive skin, and I sell botanical skin care, which I'm addicted to myself - can't do my hair after using off the shelf shampoo - just can't go without my own stuff, but I am bringing travel sizes and samples to cut down on space. I'm going to wear the same pumps to dinner every night, and bring lots of flip flops - they don't take up much space or weight.

Good news - the French don't really dig those American showers. You'll get a very nice soaking tub. And if they are trying to be nice to you as an American expecting a shower, a little glass partition on one end to sort of keep the water from the hand held spray head in the tub area if you insist on trying to shower :lmao:

And deodorant isn't that big a thing in France (perfume is the thing), so after a sweaty walk on the Champs D'Elysee, you'll smell right at home!!

I had to show my wife this one - she really thinks I'm the only strange person who packs the old underwear for vacation and throws it away each day to make more room to bring souvenirs home (and avoid doing laundry).

God Bless Southwest and the two Bags !!!!

(BTW - Try getting Pampers into a Carry on)

I order my toiletries from CVS and with a $25 order you get free shipping. I have them delivered several days before I arrive. Then I call the resort to see if it has arrived. I can also order snacks from CVS.

Same thing for Walgreens, spend $25 and get free shipping.

I have no problems living out of a carry on on business trip or short trip but generally speaking I'm with you when it comes to vacation trips that are 4 days or longer.

We usually try to go JetBlue so our first bag is free and we don't really need more than one bag.

I've never been able to do just a carry on, Hell, I can barely fit everything into a carry on + 1 checked bag...hahha I dont know how people do it..

My problem is fitting in my bed pillow, because we've made a deal never to separate...:rotfl2:

Thank God I fly SW!! It's the only direct from here to Vegas. Going for 5 mights 6 days next week. Shoes alone are going to take up so much room!! Honestly I don't know how anyone can do it with a carryon only! I'll probably have a bag for shoes and purses and I'm really not all that girly!!:rotfl:

Seriously tho, one outfit for day and another for when we go out in the evening, takes up a lot of room!

Seriously, carry-on only for a vacation of any length, no. But it's more than possible to consolidate and keep everything to one checked bag. Plan.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but if you need an entire bag full or shoes and handbags for a 5-night trip, then yes, you are all that girly, LOL.

Just FYI, handbags in checked luggage are often stolen even when apparently empty. Thieves lift them on the theory that something of value might have been left inside.

Even for a girly person, if it is only 5 nights, then a maximum of two handbags and three prs. of shoes (including the ones you wear to travel in) should be sufficient. Coordinate all of the clothing that you pack, and you will only need a casual purse and an evening purse.
