As a child , were you a leader or a follower?

I'm not sure about picking one or the other. It seems like there are different kinds of leadership that emerge in various situations. I can think of one boy at our kids' school who was a very charismatic and dominant personality, and was always team captain and student body president, but if, say, someone needed to step up to defend an underdog or something, he always hung back -- wouldn't hang his hat on any cause.

The simple question of this thread is very thought-provoking.

Wanted to be a follower, ended up being a leader because other people were always so inefficient or didn't know stuff, and I would get impatient.

Definitely not a leader. Occasionally a follower but usually nothing.

Yeah, I was kinda neither. I never wanted to lead, but I didn't follow either and just did my own thing. That left me on the outside a lot. Sometimes in my per group I might have been the center, reluctantly leading at times, but I tried to avoid that.

I was the youngest of my cohort of cousins, and with my September birthday I was also always the youngest in my school class. Any attempt on my part to be anything but a follower was quickly slapped down, often literally.

I was going to say neither, but observer works better. Loner doesn't work because I wasn't alone.

I was neither but as an adult I’ve adapted to leadership pretty well. I think as I continue to age I’ll end up being a very good leader

Yeah, I had no interest in being on stage or leading but I wasn't interested in following anyone. I knew everyone, I had no issue hanging out with any group, I had very stage oriented friends I supported, I was a team player but if I saw a project going sideways I'd step up to take over. I called myself an independent.
