Thinking of trying this one for the first time on our upcoming trip in December because we love the theming of WL at Christmas time. We've always read good things about it here on this board but after reading the menu on Deb's we can't decide if the food is "our kinda thing". And since it IS on the expensive side, I'd hate to spend a small fortune just to find out we hate it! So I thought I would ask you guys for your help.

Just to give you some kind of idea of our tastes, these are some places we LIKE:
Ohana's, Biergarten, Spoodles, Tepanyaki, ABC Commissary, Sci-Fi for burgers/shakes, Beaches n Cream, LTT, Whispering Canyon and we've always had okay food at the buffets.

These are some places that we have tried and DON'T LIKE (for one reason or another:
Akershus!!!- TOO fishy!, San Angel Inn- too bland, Marrakesh- didn't care for the sugar/cinnamon/meat combinations, and Le Cellier-just so-so, 50's Prime Time- too annoying.
(Please don't flame me- these are just our opinions lol)
HOWEVER, except for Akershus, we will probably give the others another try at some point because all had redeeming qualities and great atmosphere, it's just that our dining experience wasn't anything to write home about.

So, now that you know our tastes, what do you think- would we like it or should we try somewhere else?

TIA
Monica

AP attemepts to be a 'wild' type restaurant, serving venison, buffalo and their specialty cedar plank salmon. While the 'game' foods have decreased over time I can state that our family of four (including my 15 and especially our 11 year old) absolutely love this place.

The buffalo steak is what I always get. The filet mignon pleases my 15 year old, my wife loves the salmon and my 11 year old (oddly) loves the cheese plate as her appitizer (after eating my mushroom soup).

Service at AP is one of the absolute best on property and their paiings of pacific wines with their meals is a real plus.

It's a great place.

Thanks peter pirate- it helps to hear what others enjoy! The fact that both your children enjoy it helps! Anyone else have something to add?

I agree with Peter - AP is one of the best restaurants on property. It's definitely worth a try. We've eaten there a few times and never had a bad meal! I too always get the buffalo filet. This is the first place I've ever tried buffalo and I like it better than the beef tenderloin. It is a splurge, but worth it! Their cobbler for desert is alst great! Give it a try.

Another thumbs up to AP. My DW, DD4, and I lived in Alaska for four years, and many of the finer restaurants there offer game foods on the menu, such as the buffalo, venison, and of course, Alaskan salmon and halibut (the world's best). To our surprise, AP's salmon and halibut offerings were from Alaska. . .at least they claimed. My point is that the food we had at AP rivaled what we often ate in Anchorage's topnotch dining milieu.

It appears by your list of likes and dislikes that you lean toward more substantial, less esoteric entrees. If that's the case, then AP should be fine for you since they do have filet, buffalo loin, and the like. By the way, if you haven't tried buffalo, you should. It's wonderful and not at all gamey. If you like fish, but don't like it fishy, then you might steer away from the salmon--some people find salmon a bit fishy tasting regardless of how it's cooked. Halibut, on the other hand, isn't fishy tasting at all--it tends to absorb whatever spices and herbs used in its preparation. It has been dubbed in some places as the "steak of seafood."

As for AP's service, the night we went in August it was impeccable. We even took our DD4 since they do have a child's menu, and it was a delightful evening. Peter Pirate's comments about the wine pairing is right on the mark, too. We ordered the pairings which consisted of three flights of wine of your choosing, though our server made some excellent suggestions. She even brought us complimentary samples of a few wines to help us decide.

For dessert, I did the bread pudding/creme brulee combo while DW had the berry cobbler. Hers was better, though mine was fine. We love a strong cup of coffee w/dessert, and AP serves theirs French press style, leaving the press on the table. Excellent coffee!

Yes, the prices are a bit steeper than average (though I must point out that they're about what you'd pay in Alaska at a good to very good restaurant), but the experience was divine. If you have kids, they are treated well, though there were only a handful of them when we dined at 7 p.m. If you prefer a more romantic setting, go for a later PS. Dressy casual seemed to be the most appropriate attire there. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with AP. :sunny:

we have never been disappointed w/AP. the open range chicken is very good as is all that has been mentioned. be sure to leave room for the berry cobbler. yum!

DH & I tried Artist Point for the first time last October and we LOVED it!!!! (DD went to the Cubs Den instead - and she had a great time). The wine pairings are great!! The food was delicious and the service was excellent!!

It is on our "to do" list from now on!!! We were supposed to go back on our trip in July, but we had some relatives drop in on us and we all went to Whispering Canyon instead. Then, we ran out of time and never got to go to Artist Point.

We are dining at Artist Point on our last night for our upcoming trip! DD is coming with us this time, and she's found a couple of things off the child's menu that she wants to try! We're doing the sleigh ride, then dinner!! Can't wait!!!!

My dh and I love Artist Point! We usually go w/o kids, either grandma watches them if she's with us, or they go to the Cub's Den (which they love!)

I think AP offers something for all tastes. I don't care for game meats or fish, but I love thier filet of beef and the Smoked Portabello Mushroom soup is worth the trip just for that! My dh enjoys new foods, so last trip he had the buffalo sirloin which he really enjoyed. We did the chef's selection menu last time which I thought was a good value. They offered a choice of 1/2 appetizer, a choice of salad, a full entree, and a choice of dessert, for something like $47. It was alot of food, but if you add up everything individually, it was worth way more than $47!! The Berry Cobbler alone is $12 and well worth every penny!

Give it a try...it may become one of your favorite spots to dine too!
