The owner picked the location because it was almost exactly halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The 65 ft high ice cream cup is hiding a water tank, which is solely to provide water for firefighter use, since the water system there isn't adequate in case of emergency.
 

Eddieworld seems to compete on stuff but doesn't appear to really have that many gas pumps.

From an EV perspective, Barstow and Baker are the places to stop.
 
Perhaps their claim to 'biggest' relates to the overall square footage of the property or the number of stores it includes.
 
Sort of reminds me of Harris Ranch, on I-5 in Coalinga, California. About half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles. And they are in the process of installing 98 Tesla Superchargers, the most of any location in the nation.

They already had a few of those as early as 2013 when I went through with my family. Might have only been about 6 at that time.
 
Stopped at Buc-ees on Sunday. Had never seen it so crowded. Seemed more crowded than disney
