Art of Animation Drawing Class??

Unfortunately, this activity has really dropped in quality & I no longer find it worth a trip to AOA.

When it was at HS you had a backlit drawing desk, with large thick paper that made for a nice souvenir that we lovingly hand carried home & put into art storage books. We are also not artists & I was amazed the drawings are recognizable after only 30 min. With dated work you could see the progression as my kids grew.

At DLR, they embraced the in-park drawing class & renovated the building. Here they offered 3 hole punched large thick drawing paper to place into special clip boards. This paper has the California Adventure logo on the paper. They also put out a placard each day with what time which character will be drawn & you can plan to return for a special one. Definitely a great souvenir.

At AOA, we sat on ottomans (no back), in the corner of the lobby next to the TV, were given a 29¢ clip board & were handed an 8.5" x 11" typing paper of the cheapest, thinnest version they could find.

Very disappointing version of its former self. We won't be back.

Having never done it at DHS, I enjoyed it. To me, it was about the instructions, and finding I could draw something recognizable even though I’m not much of an artist.

If you want more of a souvenir-quality keepsake, you could always bring your own sketchbook.

Thanks for all the information about the new iteration of the class. I think I will still try to check it out - we want to take a ride on the Skyliner so a trip from DHS to AoA for the drawing class would be a fun little diversion when we need a break from the park.

As far as I know, Art of Animation still offers a drawing class. My niece took their animation class a few years ago. But now, there are many quality online drawing and animation courses. I'm trying to develop in the animation design field without investing a lot of money. For this purpose, I read scientific literature, watch video tutorials on YouTube, take free webinars and buy inexpensive checklists.

Going to close to avoid any confusion since this thread is several years old and may have outdated info.
