Arriving on Monday, and no-one's booked any transport!

I'm arriving at MCO at 3.30pm on Monday with a group of 7, and having a slight panic because no-one's booked any transport from the airport (seriously, the one job I left to someone else!) We need to get to Orlando Public Library for 5pm, coould anyone reccomend the cheapest way of doing this? I was going to book a Mears shuttle bus, but I'd rather something that we could pay for a the time, rather than in advance (so that everyone pays their share!)

Also, is there a good taxi service anyone can reccomend for getting from the library to the Universal hotels later in the evening?

Not sure Mears shuttle buses go to the library. You might be better off renting a van. The reason I say this is if you use a towncar you will have to pay for the trip to the library. then pay for a trip from the library to your resort.

Renting by the time is not better than the distance! You will be arriving right at the start of rush hour and you will be paying for time spent waiting at traffic lights as well as the time spent to travel which could be rather costly.
The mears site shows the estimate charge to be close to $80 and that does not factor in time spent sitting in traffic nor a tip to both drivers.

Thanks for the reply Unfortunatley, none of us can drive, so renting a van isn't an option I was thinking about getting a Mears bus to the Embassy Suites, which are just down the road from the library, and walking from there. (There's a gig on at the library you see, we're not just checking out books ). Everyone else is happy to just wing it, but I'd rather know what we're doing!

I think at this stage I would recommend using cabs. Get two cabs to the liabrary. Ask them for thier cards and call them when you need to be picked back up. It's probably going to be as cheap as Mears and less hassle this late in the game.

Are you staying at the Embassy Suites? If not what do you plan to do with your luggage?

You don't have to pay for Mears Shuttle in advance, or book it ahead either. You could call them to see how close they'll get you to the library and the cost, and make sure everybody has that much cash + tip available. Library to hotel, check out golynx.com, or plan on a cab.
