We decided to fly down the night before our week stay at the Poly. To save some money we thought about staying at the ASM that night, because our flight doesn't land until almost 8pm. We've never done this before. How does this work? I am assuming we will have to check out of the ASM and head over to the Poly to check in before heading to the parks that day? Are we responsible for getting our luggage there, or does Disney take care of that?

Yes, you need to check out of ASM when you are ready to leave in the morning. You can give your luggage to Bell Services at ASM and ask them to deliver it to the Poly. Then just go to the theme parks until you are ready to return to your resort, then head over to the Poly. You check in there and check with bell Services about your luggage. If your room is ready and your luggage has arrived, then you can go to your room and call Bell Services to bring up your luggage. Be aware that Bell Services can take a while to get the luggage moved, so you need too carry anything that you might need during the day.

Another way to do this is to get a cab from ASM to the Poly after checking out of ASM. Then you check in to the Poly first. If your room is ready you can go straight there and then go about your day. If not, store your luggage with Bell Services and go about your day. The Poly CM's will text you when your room is ready. You can then return whenever you want to settle in.

That said, if the Poly were available for the first night, I would stay there and not move for the sake of one night. It is really nice to get up in the morning and be settled at your resort and ready to enjoy your vacation.

However,
Either way you decide to go, it is not difficult to move and doesn't need to be time consuming. WE do split stays all the time. It is really easy.

Enjoy!

Just one additional addition to the previous great information. I would suggest that you use "Express Checkout" to speed up your morning and get you to the parks faster. When using Express Checkout, you don't need to stop at the front desk.

Just have your MDE profile updated with your email address and you will receive an electronic copy of your bill overnight and you can then just drop your bags as suggested above and head for the bus to the park of your choice in the morning.

Thank you for the replies. This doesn't sound bad at all to do. It will be a lot easier and cheaper than leaving our house at around 4 a.m. for the early flight to Disney. I got our flight down for $78 one way. With seven of us going and getting two rooms, it still saves us money. Plus we are there sooner. Can't wait. :)

We did this on our last trip. We stayed at ASMovies before heading over to the Wilderness Lodge the next morning for the remainder of our stay. By the way it was the best decision ever since it got us well rested before the start of the trip. One suggestion is to grab a cab and just take your luggage to the Poly and have bell services hold it if your room isn't ready. I believe it only cost us $20 for the cab and it was so much easier than having to switch busses etc. Plus we wanted to be able to have access to our luggage right away as opposed to having to wait for it to transfer resorts.

ITA! When we go the night before we stay at a mod, DS Hotel, or if it's after 9 PM we just stay at the Hyatt at the airport. Not paying deluxe prices if getting in after 6 PM. We rent a car so we drive to the new resort in the morning, check in, many times the room is ready, if not leave the luggage with bell services and head to a park and wait for the text that the room is ready. You can also use the pool while waiting for your room to be ready.

We do it all the time. Flight usually gets in around 3:30 so we just stay that first night at Sports. The next morning we take a cab to wherever we're staying the rest of the trip. W e usually leave Sports about 7:15, check in and either take the bags to the room or Bell Services and still get a bus and hit rope drop. One thing I would suggest is to pack everyone's clothes for the next day and jammies in one bag so you don't have to open them all up.

Do I have to check into hotel#2 or can the tix from package be activated at parks?

Enjoy!

After finding a great late flight one day earlier than our stay, we originally booked ASMu and we were planning to move to AKL the next morning. After careful thought, I was able to book an additional AKL day which not only makes it easier, but also allows us to add another DDP day to use on our final day since we have a late flight out. We would rather it be more convenient and not have to move.

We stayed offsite the night before our stay and we chose to Uber. It worked great. We had our luggage with us and just left with bell services. It was fairly inexpensive too.
So I would just Uber from ASMu to make things quick and easy. We left our hotel on I drive at 6:30 and headed to Saratoga. We had plenty of time to check in and grab a bus to MK where we had an 8:00 PPO breakfast. Plenty of time for Main Street photos too!

I would take an Uber in the morning to the Poly and drop off luggage. It can take awhile to get it, and you may want your swimsuits or a change of clothes for the day... It would be especially convenient if you are heading to MK that morning..

Über is going to be more expensive than generally indicated because they don't have any seven passenger vehicles.

We used Uber XL last trip to move from Pop to AKL. Needed a large trunk for a wheelchair. Very nice driver, ride was free with $15 or so credit for first ride. It was a very large SUV with 3 rows, so you may be able to fit 7, but you'd need trunk space for luggage.

There are always credits out there for first rides, so you could have two Uber cars & each reserved with a different person, thus likely free or very cheap!

I tipped the guy $5 anyway - he was so helpful, and it was a holiday week.

Getting in at 8pm I'd just stay at an airport hotel and head to Poly first thing in the morning...

That's what I would do too, and besides that I like staying at the airport Hyatt for one night.

The problem with that is the OP has to go get their bags, haul them to their room, and then haul them back to DME in the morning. Kind of a pain.

OP I think you should book your rooms at the ASMu, pack what you need for your first night/day in your carry on bags (always a good idea anyway), and have Disney transfer your luggage for you the next morning. You don't even need to check in to your room at the Poly right away, you can hit the parks first and check in later.

Getting ME that night before makes your morning easier, so I agree that arriving at 8 isn't too late to need to stay at the airport.

I would retrieve my own bags to bring on the bus, though. I wouldn't want to possibly wait until midnight for them to arrive.

I am not sure if it is possible, but could you DME your bags to the Poly and put what you need for your 1 night and park day in carry ons?...This way, your luggage ends up where you ultimately want it, and you just check in at Poly with your little bit of stuff to drop off, and grab your park tickets. Of course, you would have to contact Disney to make sure it's a o kay!
