Arriving late- stay near universal or near airport

Hi-

My DH and I will be flying into Orlando after work on Feb 9th, arriving around 10 pm.

We will be checking into RPR the next morning, but I refuses to pay 200 dollars for that first night.

Would it be better to hotwire an inexpensive hotel near the airport or near universal? How far of a drive is it from the airport to Universal (we are renting a car)? If we stay near the airport, would we be hitting traffic the next morning (we plan to try and arrive and check in at RPR in time for early WWOHP that morning)?
