I didn't even realize when I reserved our flights that we were arriving to WDW on my birthday. I was just so excited to going back to WDW for NYE. Now that we are arriving at 10:30pm on the 30th, I'm hoping to make it to MK before it closes at midnight to get my birthday gift card. I guess we would have to skip ME, because it would just drop us off at SSR. Do you think if we waited for our luggage, took a cab, dropped our luggage at SSR bell services & then booked it to MK, that we could make it?

What are the chances we could make it over to the lagoon afterwards to watch the special fireworks on the 30th?

Should I just forget the whole thing since it's probably going to end up costing us more than the $75.00 gift card when I'm done? Just take ME & hope to get a glimpse of the fireworks? WWYD?

I think the cab & birthday gift card would be pretty much a wash, so wouldn't do the cab routine just to get the gift card.

If seeing Wishes on your birthday is very important and your travel companions are OK with it, let them (or one volunteer adult) get the luggage and take ME to SSR & check in.

You take a cab to the Contemporary Resort as soon as you get off the plane. You walk over to the MK to see Wishes (and get the gift card if there is time. Might be). If the plane is on time, you'll make it. Cab driver might even be willing to drop you off near the path to the MK instead of the CR lobby if you tell him the MK is your ultimate destination. Guests who tell the driver they want to go to the MK, get dropped at the TTC. It's better and faster to get dropped at the CR and walk.

After WISHES, you take the bus back to SSR. Your traveling companions could leave a key for you at the front desk. I'm assuming that everyone in your party is listed on the reservation so that your traveling companions can check in without you.

Probably not as much fun to see WISHES by yourself as it would be with the whole party, but I very much doubt you could get to SSR, check in and get to the MK in time, even if you took cabs and the luggage came right away.

I wouldn't worry about it, especially since you are assuming no delays in your flight, no delays in the luggage, etc.

I would just take ME, relax and enjoy the start of your trip and just try for the fireworks!!

Good luck and have a great time!!

Did you know you can register online for your Birthday Gift Ticket? Here is the LINK to the info here on the DIS. By registering ahead online, you will save yourself time at the gate...

I would suggest sending your luggage to SSR via ME and taking the ME yourself over to the Contemporary. Just take the monorail over to the MK. That should ensure you arrive in time to at least obtain your Birthday Gift Ticket. You can then take the bus over to SSR to register and check in later on.

I do not think she can take ME to the Contemporary if she is not staying there. The drivers scan your voucher before you board.

I did hear that, but I hadn't done it yet so thanks for link. That was easy to fill out & should definitely save time.

As far as ME to the contemporary...I know we DID do that once because we had ADRs at the CG & our plane was delayed & we weren't going to make it in time so the CM at the ME desk said, "We're not suppose to do this, but I'll give you passes for the contemporary bus, because you won't make your ADR otherwise". Wonder if they'd be so understanding if I said I needed to get to MK? :rolleyes1

I'm starting to think that maybe we'll just rent a car since we want to head to the grocery store in the morning anyway for beer & wine & breakfast items & then we could just return the car & take ME back to the airport.

I wonder if they'll let us in the Polynesian if we say we want a drink at the Tambu lounge. Which wouldn't be a lie because they don't close till midnight & DH could wait for me with DD & DS in the lounge while I jump on the monorail to MK & then meet them back there. Will security let us in or say no way it's packed solid?

They you all for your suggestions so far. I appreciate it! :thumbsup2

I know some people have asked and been allowed with no problem. If you are going to the other "monorail" resorts, you can just get off at any of the hotel stops no problem. But, SSR is not in that loop of course.

Just ask at the airport desk and explain your situation, if you choose to try this. Good luck!
