Can someone please tell me the specifics of what we need to do on the Arrive Canada App? We are cruising out of NY On October 10, but don’t dock in Canada until October 13. What information needs to be added on the App and when can we do this? Are test results required for the App, or just vaccination records?

We have sailed DCL many times, but have not gone to Canada since Covid. I am confused on what we need to do when. So many things to remember now, - 120 days before to make on line plans, 30 days ahead to do on-line check in, 15 days Safe Passage and now Arrive Canada App. Plus the whole testing thing which is another complication in and of itself.

Thanks for any insight or advice !

hi - I’m just back from a DCL Alaska cruise out of Vancouver so can maybe help with some of your questions.

Re what can be done when - you can set up profiles and enter vax info at any time. Canada requires vax records for those fully vaccinated & testing is not required for vaxed passengers. So go ahead & do that now for everyone.

Here’s a link to the ArriveCAN general information- https://www.canada.ca/en/border-services-agency/services/arrivecan.html

You can’t get your ArriveCAN QR code until you are within 72 hours of arrival into Canada, The app & website have filters in place, if you try early you’ll get a message asking you to come back within your window based on arrival date.

On the ship, you can access the ArriveCAN website without purchasing any of the DCL internet packages….at least, we could during our Alaska cruise as we needed ArriveCan to return to Vancouver.

Depending on when in the cruise Canada is your port of call, you may not be able to do the ArriveCAN until you are already cruising.

Here’s a link to the Canada government ArriveCAN website for cruise passengers- https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise#boarding-excursions

The DCL people in the embarkation terminal were very helpful for those who had questions or needed ArriveCAN app help at the port prior to boarding.

You may have to contact DCL for info on ArriveCAN & Canada only as a port of call, unless someone on the Pacific Coast reposition cruise can weigh in on how it worked for them with their Victoria port of call.

Thank you so much for the helpful info. I tried the other day to put in my info in the app, but it said my window wasn’t open, so I couldn’t do it. But, I will look again, I just may not have been doing it right . Thanks again !

You may be a bit early for ArriveCAN but I do think you can do it sooner than Oct 10 because "entry by Marine" does let you fill out info within a few days of your cruise.

Click on the Travellers icon to enter your personal & vax info. That’s the part that can be done early. I did mine in early July for a late August arrival. The button to do your forms to enter Canada is what can’t be done until 72 hours.

Who needs to use ArriveCAN

All travellers, with limited exceptions, whether entering Canada by air, land, rail or marine vessel, must use ArriveCAN unless you're exempt from this requirement due to an accessibility need.

You'll need to submit your information within 72 hours:

  • before your arrival in Canada
  • and/or before boarding a cruise ship destined for Canada Doesn't this mean we can complete the form before boarding a cruise ship?

That is what I thought. I am on the same cruise as the OP and this part had me confused. Some people said 72 hours before embarkation others said 72 hours before arrival in Canada.

I already have the traveler info filled out in ArriveCAN from our Hawaii to Vancouver trip in May so I am just waiting to add my travel info for this cruise.

Just to test, I opened up my ArriveCAN now to start a new form. Currently (Sept 7) it allows me to choose a cruise embarkation date starting on Sept 6 and up to Sept 11. So a few days before you board, for sure. It allows me to choose a date of arrival (i.e. into Canada) from Sept 6 up until October 7. If you are sailing on Oct 10 but not arriving in Canada until Oct 13, it seems you should be able to fill in the ArriveCAN at about Oct 6-7 or so.

My traveller info is already saved from the many other times we have used ArriveCAN, but that part can be done earlier, for sure.
