Around the McMansion (A new home for the J&K+8ers w/out J&K chatter!)

Do mind if I join in.... I posted a few times on the other thread but I did not for the relationships that others did....but I can be a little chatty

I know I don't mind, seriously doubt anyone else does for that matter. New friends are just as fun as old ones. :flower3:

Me too! :santa:

I even already have the decorations up....that's crazy! :rotfl: I never put them up this early, at least not inside. We do outside if the weather is nice and then turn them on Thanksgiving weekend. I did inside though because with family coming, I just want to relax over Thanksgiving and not decorate.

So today my feet are aching as I spent all weekend cleaning house and decorating for Christmas.

 I don't think that's crazy at all! I'd put up our decorations now too if I didn't think my DH's head would spin around like the Exorcist. Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration but still, he's weird about putting them up too early. I don't get that. One year he suggested we get our tree the week of Christmas!:scared1: I vetoed that lickety-split.

I'm sure your house looks lovely then, with all the time you spent decorating. Maybe I'll have you give my DH a call and convince him it's not too early. :lmao:

Our decorations are taken down from the loft in the garage. Does that count?:santa:

Well the kids kind of cleaned the kitchen--so I rewarded them for their effort with a painful production of making Christmas candy from wilton's.

Let's just say--may the force be with Frosty and Santa..b/c their hats over flowed and they are now wearing shades.:rotfl::rotfl:

Apparently, their is an industry secret that actual professionals make the candies pictured on the box. Tap the tray to get rid of air bubbles my eye. The stuff didn't budge. So I used a spoon to kind of squish them out.

No idea when DH's job is starting. Apparently they dont' know when to give up on asking the upper management for his salary (which gets teh recruiters fees added on top, so I kind of woudln't blame them if they said to heck with this nonsense).

We had to go ahead and do our Cobra-esque insruance extension b/c e aren't sure if he'd be on in time for us to have December covered. Such nonsense I say!

And with Thanksgiving, I'm not sure all this job-crap will be resolved until after the holiday.

But I finished the kids Christmas shopping.Woohoo!!!! Santa didn't do too poorly on a limited budget.

Hi everyone, I haven't posted on the other thread in a while, but I always enjoyed the chatter.
Hi Tracey-I saw your new TR. I went to the Smokey Mountains and you got to go to WDW. Did you see Buzz and Linny and the kids?

And hello to anyone else.

Want to hear a funny story about a Christmas Tree?
My kids are all allergic to a real tree, but we still get one, and they all stay away from the tree as much as possible. We never put the tree up until the Sunday before Christmas. One year the tree really gave off the "evergreen scent" and we had to take it down the day after Christmas. My in-laws called and said, they were on their way over to see our tree (actually to see what everyone got for christmas). Well, we actually had the tree out on the curb, and I heard the tree grinder truck coming, and I made my dd run outside and take a picture of the tree getting grinded up. When my in-laws finally got to the house, we printed out a picture of the tree getting grinded up.:rotfl: The look on their faces was priceless.

Hey Lisa! I couldn't think of a better name! Kate's "McMansion" was in my head so that's what I went with! DS3 got 8 stitches this morning so that's my excuse for my brain not working today!

Love the name of the thread! How is DS3 doing with his new stiches. Make sure you get pictures so he can show them off:laughing:

I don't know if any of you are mother-in-laws, (I actually like mine), but issues and tensions are horrible during the holidays.

We flew my MIL up friday from Vero & she is staying with us until she can't take it anymore. I did not book the return trip yet.

Question: DD22 just moved in to a Condo with her boyfriend this month. We are all going on a cruise Dec 28 until Jan 2. I told her for her Christmas present I would pay for her plane ticket. I asked her today if she still wanted me to do that. She says let me ask BF calls back & says just mine or BF too? I said just you.... I had no intention on spending that kind of money on him.

Did I do anything wrong? I do have other things to give her for Christmas.

DH, DD13, DD15 & myself are driving to save money.

It's so nice to see both of you again!!

Our outside decorations are up. I wasn't going to light them, but other's have, so I threw the switch. My village is up, but then that's more a winter village than Christmas.

Today I'm putting together the tree, and will get the lights up, so the grands can decorated it on Friday (which is our Thanksgiving this year). The little kittens I recently started to foster ended up being even younger than the 3 weeks I thought they were, so they are taking up a lot of my time. One has to be forced fed. I have to do what I can get down whenever I have a chance. I hope I can get them through this tough part..they are just sweetheats.

LOL. Pretty funny, eh? We've been together for so long, we figured we had other stuff to talk about.

Just wondering, can we talk about them without the drama..for instance to say, the last show is Monday, but not make comments about the family? Then those that want to , can hop over to the thread and let people know if there is something they didn't like?

We will always have something to talk about! LOL

Of course! Just no drama please from anyone - that's all I'm asking. Anything we can discuss nicely and calmly. :goodvibes We're all adults so I know that won't be a problem! :upsidedow

Sounds good:) What is everyone plans for Thanksgiving

DH's working on Thanksgiving so I'm making them dinner on Wednesday night for him to take with him on Thursday. Our family dinner will be on Friday so it's cooking for the rest of the week for me!

Hi everyone!

I wasn't a frequent poster on the J&K threads, but I thought this was a neat idea for a thread and wanted to come on over and say hi. :flower3:

Can you believe Thanksgiving is this week?! I feel like 2009 has just FLOWN by...now I get to go to the grocery store with thousands of other people and get my holiday fixings - wish me luck! :rotfl:

Well Hello! :goodvibes

Good luck! Our stores here were out of canned pumpkin to make pies with - what a freaking mess. Thankfully a friend is off work this week and she was able to get there when one of the stores got a delivery so she could get me some!

Don't mind at all! We like chatty people!

Hey ladies! What a wonderful idea newtodis!

As far as Thanksgiving goes, we're traveling to my dad and stepmoms house. My 2 brothers and sister-in-law will be there as well. We can't wait to go. I'm still in denial that it's even almost Thanksgiving. Tonight I went to Target to use up a coupon and did a little Christmas shopping as well. I'm one of those people who love everything about Christmas and start listening to the music before Thanksgiving!:scared1: Crazy, right? It always seems to go so quickly so I try to make it last as long as possible. What's wrong with that?;)

Thank you!

I'm the same way about Christmas!! Thankfully the shopping's just about done which is awesome! Now I just need to get it all packed up and mailed out to the family!

Me too! :santa:

Aww! I'm cleaning and decorating on Thursday while DH's at work. He hates the mess of it all so I'm doing it with the kids while he's gone.

Agreed!

Oh yes I have pictures!

As for the daughter thing, I don't think you did anything wrong at all. That's just me. Is it a Disney cruise?? A friend just told me about some really good deals coming up for the spring!!

 Oh, your poor baby! I hope he's feeling better, and I love his little grin too.:goodvibes Was it awful for him? I hope not. My middle daughter had an accident and sliced 2 of her fingers to the bone. I nearly passed out, I am not good with blood! She had to have surgery to repair all the tendons and nerves. How do kids do these things? I don't recall being that accident prone as a child!

I've heard a lot of people are having a difficult time finding canned pumpkin due to Libby's poor crop this year (due to all the rain I think). Speaking of which I have 2 pies to bake and 2 pumpkin rolls to make today, and here I am on the dis!! I need to focus!

OMG I almost fainted when I saw his poor head:faint:

Me too..poor baby. Is that also a bruise on his nose? I wonder if it is, if he'll have shiners.

I had to have pumpkin for my kitten babies, and someone picked it up for me and was happy to find it at the store (it tightens up their, uh, poo..just a little bit). They'll be some left and she plans on making pumpkin muffins.

I've got the tree up, the music playing, and just got some house cleaning to do, as well as actually write down what fresh stuff I need to pick up for Thursday dinner at my sis's and our family diner here Friday (diner at my sis's usually takes about 5 minutes, man does everyone eat fast there..then we'll settle in to watch a movie). I love the holidays..everything about them (well, except that my son lives so far away..but I'll see him in mid January to meet our newest grandchild. They are leaving the tree up, and we will be celebrating Christmas).

I've never heard of pumpkin as a treatment--that is fascinating!

We are prepping to drive to Atlanta today (via jax with hotel stop using hotel points!). No christmas decorating just yet.:guilty:

DH finally got a confirmation on the job offer. Mulling it over this afternoon before accepting the position. OY--months without the hubby. He did buy his airline ticket already for Christmas. Now fingers crossed that DC weather cooperates with a timely departure on Christmas Eve. He can be delayed on the way back for all I care. But the kiddos need daddy home for Christmas.

The pumpkin doesn't always work (we give just a tiny amount..1/8 of a teaspoon once a day for three days)..we have several 'home remedies' (I've got one with oats). But they are only as good as getting the kitten to swallow the stuff. I'm also giving the one that is the weakest kayro syrup in him KMR (kitten replacement milk) to sweeten it. It may have coccidia but until I can get some formed poo, the test will come up neg. I thought they were about 3 weeks when I got them..but they were just so furry (think red fur, long haired), they fooled me. Now, they are prob 3 weeks.

Oh yes he was fine - only cried for a minute honestly and last night and today he's running around like a crazy man! He's insisted that he go to big brother's Thanksgiving party this afternoon at school so that should be a trip! I wasn't that accident prone either! I know he gets it from his dad - every year on DH's birthday (he shares his bday with our other DS5) he's been in the ER except the past year - only because we were at Disney I would guess!

I want to try and make a pumpkin roll but I don't think I'm that talented! I used to have cookie swaps before we moved and have tons of yummy recipies to try that I'm just scared to! Good luck getting it all done!!

OMG I almost fainted when I saw his poor head:faint:

Sorry about that! Honestly, to me, it looks worse today because it's starting to heal now...

He always has that spot on his nose actually but the guys here at work say once the lydocane from the stitches all wears out, he'll really start to bruise! (the lydocane pushes all the blood out of the area so they were able to stitch it all out without a problem - DH said he screamed for that part but laid perfectly still for the stitching part) Mondays before Thanksgiving are not good for us! Three years ago DS3 was born the Monday before Thanksgiving and spent the week in RNICU! Hopefully this isn't some "three year curse" or anything like that!!

I love the holidays too!! It's kind of nice living further away from family - a lot less to do in the sense of having to run all over and see everyone and everything else. I know it's great when we're all together too.

Have fun in Atlanta! I want to get over there this spring some time and go to the aquarium with the boys. We've never been and my "logic" has always been that if I'm driving five hours, I'm going in the other direction (to Disney!). :rotfl:

Well hopefully it all works out for the best for you guys!!

Good luck with your decision.
I swear to God, pilots call in sick on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Twice my dd's flights got cancelled on those days. Luckily the airline flew her to another city. It took 8 hours round trip for my dh to pick her up. she flew into Midway in Chicago.

I think they get cancelled because the plane is empty.

Hi Tracey-I saw your new TR. I went to the Smokey Mountains and you got to go to WDW. Did you see Buzz and Linny and the kids?

Hi!! I posted the video where the kids learned we were really going to Disney not the mountains. Their reactions were great! We didn't end up going to Disney in October when Buzz and Linnie were there, we are planning on seeing them 10/10 in WDW>

It's so nice to see both of you again!!

Carters3rdBirthday293.jpg

Hi, oh my goodness, he is adorable. Poor little guy, but you will have some stories to tell about him when he gets older.

Newtodis...oh my what a cutie! I bet those beautiful brown eyes sure melt the hearts of those around him.

Oh yes - both of my boys are cuties if I do say so! DS5's teacher this year told me during conferences he's a "ladies man" and that she's had to limit everyone to one kiss per day when they get to school and that's it! :rotfl: He got married on the bus about a week after school started because he kissed a girl from his class on the lips thanks to the coaxing from some other kids from his class. This girl business is starting way too soon - I thought I had a few more years!

Hi, oh my goodness, he is adorable. Poor little guy, but you will have some stories to tell about him when he gets older.

Oh yes! I'm hoping to scrapbook tomorrow and Sunday so I'll get to relive some of the stories! I've got three boxes of pictures to scrap and haven't printed pictures since we moved two years ago! It's time to sit down and get caught up!!

Stitches came out today! Now just steri strips on the forehead until they fall off. Then it's just keeping it covered up when he's outside for the next nine months - that should be fun!!

How was everyone's Thanksgiving??? Did anyone brave the crowds and go shopping??

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving!! Things have been super busy so I haven't had as much time to chat lately. Have a great afternoon!!

I've either been busy with life, or busy with the two kittens. They have grown so much..they play with each other now, and don't fall down when they swat at each other. It's going to be hard to let these two go!
