Armadillos Around Resorts

We're getting ready to stay for nine days at VWL on March 1st. It seems like the armadillos have been active during some stays more than others. We love animals, and think the armadillos are so cute rummaging through the mulch. Does anyone, possibly Florida residents, know if there is a time of year that they're more active.

All I can say is that we saw an armadillo in July at Typhoon Lagoon near the parking lots.

And I've seen two at the All Stars Movies in February.

I saw one in June at the WLV's. My husband and son did not believe me when I told them I saw it while walking from the main pool to the quiet pool!

It has become quite the joke that mom sees armadillo's!

Hi: A few years ago during an april trip, we would see them outside of disney at the side of the highways, around dusk, walking thru the culverts.

Armadillos are often visible while foraging during the warm summer months. The key to observing armadillos is to listen, as you will likely hear them before you see them. I have watched them many times at VWL I usually see and hear the undergrowth moving then there they are.

Every year my family (when I was a little girl) camped in Fort Wilderness..and there were ALWAYS little visitors! We went in April every year!

My DH crossed paths with one @ CSR in Sept on his way back from a coffee run early one morning.. it totally freaked him out...said it's nails were 'clicking' on the pavement.

I turned down a hall towards the pool in May at the AS-Movies and saw one just strolling along on the sidewalk, VERY CLOSE to me. Scared me half to death!!! I literally ran back to the room. Thank goodness I didn't have my kids with me!!

I also have seen them in August while walking into Epcot from the bus stops. They were in the bushes near some flowers. They didn't surprise me that time. I think because then, I knew what they were and they were in "nature" vs. ten feet from my hotel door!! LOL!!

I had a staring contest once with one at All Star Music in January. It was so cool. It was early in the morning and I was walking back from the food court. He walked across the path so close to my daughter and I that we nearly tripped over him. I couldn't believe what I had just seen. But he turned his head around and watched us walk away for a while. It was very cool.

We've seen them a few times over the years as we head back to our rooms very late at night during June at the ASMo. One totally freaked out DD as she was talking on her cell phone outside the room late one evening. We've also seen them in the wooded areas around and under the monorail as we ride from MK to EPCOT once and awhile. DH has good eyes and is always looking for them.

We saw one at the WL a few years back...I am always looking for them but have never seen another...I guess I will just have to look more closely on our next trip. I would love for my kids to see one!!!!
