We are supposed to be headed to San Diego soon to celebrate my son's fifth birthday. He broke his arm recently and cannot get the cast wet. I have a cover that I obly trust for baths. Does anyone know the official policy on casts at Disneyland and/or Legoland? He broke his elbow, so the cast goes well past his elbow and he can't bend it of course. I wouldn't have him go on any water rides. He is 43 inches tall.

my son broke his arm in Feb ,, 3 days before his 10th birthday.. and his party was a pool party... his cast was well up over his elbow, he used a cast cover called Seal Tight.. cast and bandage protector, Im thinking my husband bought it online, as it was his for his injury the year before . he also used it while showering etc ... it has a heavy duty plastic to cover the arm. and at the top of the arm there is a silicon seal . it will adhere to the skin... we went to Disneyland in April of this year.. two days after he was put into a hard plastic custom made splint.. he had no issues going on any of the rides... the only time he was refused to be allowed on a ride was at Knotts Berry Farm...

Make sure you take plenty of the pain meds he is using.. that would be the only advise to give you.. and if he has a sling then use that.. it will take a lot of weight off his shoulder.. and walking around all day will cause extra tiredness...

Hope you all have a great trip.

ok just googled Seal - Tight .. you can get it on Amazon.. Walgreens.. Walmart online .. and a number of other places..

My DD broke her arm two days before her surprise trip to DLR for her 5th birthday. We were lucky that it didn't swell, so they were able to put her in a cast the next day. It was a full arm cast, all the way up to the armpit. I was super nervous, but we were able to get the waterproof batting, which was great. We still avoided getting it wet, but it was nice to have a little peace of mind.

As for rides, it didn't seem to be an issue at all. She rode pretty much everything she was tall enough for except for Goofy's Sky School. I thought that one just had too much side-to-side motion and my arms were sore when I rode it, so I nixed it for her. We went in January, so the water rides weren't really an issue. She rode RSR four times, Space Mountain 4 or 5 times....not a problem with the cast at all!

Oh, and if your son wants to do Jedi training, the cast shouldn't be a problem there, either. My DD fought Darth one-handed!

I did have a garbage bag in my purse just in case it started to rain or something, but I never used it. I was a bit worried on Pirates, as there is sometimes a splash. Maybe a center seat or garbage bag/cast cover on that one, at least for the first part. I'd also avoid the "wet zones" at WOC if you're planning to see that.

I feel like the characters were extra kind to my DD on our trip. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but the combination of birthday girl and full-arm cast definitely garners some sympathy.

I have had a lot of experience with above the elbow arm casts (5 wrist surgeries, 7 casts total) and Disneyland will not prevent them from going on any rides with it. They are very accomidating in that regard (not so much if you want to stand at the bad of a wheelchair section to avoid the smashing/pushing standing room crown for show viewing though...shouldn't be a problem with family going but solo, people just don't pay attention and totally bump, push, shove, hit you). As for water rides, go with a cast cover as previously mentioned. I used the curad one and it worked extremely well for the shower and I get far wetter in the shower than any water ride. Swimming I'd hesitate...

As mentioned, Knotts will not allow you on ANY ride with a hard cast or brace except the strain I believe, so check with legoland as policies vary from park to park.

DS had a cast past his elbow for one of our DL trips. He had the green light from our Orthopedic surgeon to ride anything he wanted. It was December and unusually cold that week, so we didn't do either of the water rides. He did need to use a sling by the middle of the day, as the cast got quiet heavy after a couple of hours.

Thank you, everyone! He is doing really well with the cast, not complaining at all. I am slightly afraid of Legoland not allowing him on any rides. I will try to get a hold of them to confirm.
