I get home from work and see an invitation to come to the Vacation As You Wish show. Even though I know it's a glorified sales pitch for BLT, I figured it might be fun to attend.

Here's what the invitation e-mail said:

Vacation As You Wish

But we will only be there for one night of the event and that night was already fully booked even though we responded to the e-mail within 5 hours! Oh well, it probably saved me some $$ in avoiding an add-on. :)

I haven't been on these boards as often lately but this was a new one on me. I have a feeling they are really wheeling and dealing to keep those BLT sales going? In any event, we planned on taking the tour of the rooms anyway but figured the models were only at SSR in the usual place. Is that still true, and can you still stroll in late in the afternoon as a current DVC member?

The BLT models at the DVC Sales Center are open to members from 5pm to 7pm daily.

Based on an event in Chicago what you will miss:

The 'state of the art' technology is a device that takes a live poll of the audience and puts it on the screen. I was in awe.

An actual tour of BLT instead of just the models is really cool.

The character meet was fun. The Tink they had in Chicago was great. Wonder if it's the same one. I saw her pic at another event in a different city so she obviously gets around.

The tasty refreshments is exactly like you'd think. It's free food and a room full of people you'd figure have never eaten a day in their lives are allowed to have at it at exactly the same time.

The free stuff is mostly crap but there is a DVC notebook that was cool to write down the offers and some cool DVC binoculars that are perfect for my 4 year old.

There was a free RCI week drawing but there was only a few events over a weekend in Chicago and this is about a month long.

I got a free RCI week with an add-on. Not at all why I added on. One of the many things they threw in last time. I don't even know if I'll be able to use it because I can't find any dates/places that work in the next 12 months. So that might be worth less than the binoculars to some.

erionm..Thanks for the information on the SSR model tour times. We'll plan on getting over there at some point, I'm sure.

Duckfan...that's a great description of the event. I appreciate it. I agree that touring the actual rooms at BLT would be nice, and it also seems that in the first paragraph they are suggesting a viewing of Wishes might be part of the tour.

Amazing that something like this booked up in just a few hours. There were about 7 of these gatherings available in my e-mail, but only one while we would be at WDW. I noticed that the other ones still had availability.

I found a link that had events for the whole month of July and a few dates in June a while back so people were booking long before this email. I got an email for a passholder weekend event in July. The date I went in Chicago was 'filled' on the website. If it's the only day that works you could always call. That's what I did and they somehow found the way to fit me in. Of course they have a bigger fanbase at WDW to draw interest from, but it never hurts to ask it you're interested.

Great information and suggestion. I appreciate the response and suggestions. :thumbsup2

If you really want to tour the models at SSR, you may be able to go at any time of the day. When we returned from our cruise in April, we went to SSR specifically to tour the models. It was probably about 10:00ish. We waited for a few minutes and a CM took us and another couple on a tour of the BLT and AKV models. The other couple asked a few questions that I had really better answers than the CM :rotfl::rotfl:.. He even thanked me at the end.

We were really just looking. We had already added on while on the cruise :scared1: and we NOT going to buy more points.

I just cancelled the night of 7/9 for 4. Don't know if that will help.

This did not book up in a few hours. I signed up for it last week when I got the email. It's been out for over a week now, and alot of folks have signed up. I signed up for July 23 @ 3:00

I attended the Vacation as you Wish presentation in Boston last weekend. I spoke with the cast there and they said they were doing the Contemporary event as well.

The event included some entertainment mixed in with the sales pitch. Lots of characters: Mickey, Minnie, Aladdan, Genie, Cinderella, Fairy Godmother. Singing, a dance party and light snacks. We really enjoyed it, a nice way to spend a couple hours.

The way I figure it....each photo I have (one with Aladdin/Genie, one with Cinderella/Fairy Godmother) cost me about $2500!!!!! But is sure was a fun few hours!!
