Aren't we all sooo lucky?!

Sniff, sniff...

Buckarro is a lucky kid! All these posts are incredible! Being a good parent and loving our children is the best gift we can give ourselves! Nothing we do for our children is ever in vain!
We lived on the west coast growing up and went to Disneyland every other year when the plum tree bloomed. No matter what else was going on, those were truly the best times of my childhood. I remember not sleeping for days!
Our little family had passes to Disneyland last year (awesome Christmas present!) I still experienced that same giddiness everytime we went! We also went to Disneyworld on our honeymoon....so I am an adult impersonator at best!;)
God wants us to be happy!!!

Sometimes you just happen to come upon a thread that strikes a special place in your heart....as I approch my 50th birthday...which by the way I will be spending on the Disney Magic on December 2nd...I think back to my childhood and with my sister and brother....I being the middle child.....my parents were not well off to say the least...my father being an auto mechanic and mom a stay at home mother(and that is the way it was in those days) so we had very little except the roof over our head...clothes on our back and food on the table...but we had much more than that...we had love from our parents...and it was never the spoken "I LOVE YOU" but the understanding and feeling in our home....we never did vacations...just a day at Jones Beach for a day on the sand under the umbrella....but it was enough for us....sometimes a neighbor would be going somewhere and we got to tag along...but never a vacation to anyplace special...but we never felt we were poor....and even though things are different now for me....what I consider a good job....don't really have to sweat out paying the bills...I have a good wife and a wonderful 23 year old daughter who also loves the "world" like we do....so the statement "don't sweat the small stuff" is something we should all live by...cause things always have a way of working themselves out...sorry I go so long winded here but I am just speaking from the heart....and taking a little trip into my past...and I am enjoying it as much as a DCL vacation....18 days to the "MAGIC".........

Thanks 2 3 Suns for starting this wonderful and needed thread ! I, too, count my blessings every day ! I believe the most important gift we can give our children and grandchildren is TIME, and what treasured memories we are making with them thru DISNEY...isn't this what Walt wanted !! ?? I enjoyed reading all of your remarks. And thanks for all the help you have given me the past couple of years !:)

Ditto that on Buckaroo being one lucky kid!

It's better to have one good parent in your life than anything else. Glad to know the judge showed some wisdom in not electing to chose the mother rather than the better parent in that case - too often they don't.

Take it easy!

8 years ago i was told i had 6 months to live (due to an inoperable brain tumor)....well....i'm still here and we feel blessed by each and every day we spend together...especially at WDW or on a heavenly cruise...

I have been reading your posts and they really take me back to my child hood days. We never took a vacation because it was not affordable. It took all of my parents earnings to raise the five of us. Now I have a daughter and she has been going to Disney World since she was six months old (she is now 8 years old) We have taken her on one disney cruise and plan to go on another one September 2003. God has really blessed my family over the years and I thank him daily for allowing us to do some of the things that we want to do.

Yes, we are all so fortunate. We constantly tell our 16 yr old DD how fortunate she is. People are always telling us how lucky she is that we adopted her from Korea 16 years ago. Of course, we consider OURSELVES the lucky ones. But, we want her to know that if she would have stayed in Korea, she would never have the life she now has. When her biological mother became pregnant, she elected (Thank God) not to have an abortion and to give her to us to raise, because she knew how ostrasized they each would be in their homeland.

As DVC members since 1993, I can remember when we went to OKW one time, our DD said "you know, none of my friends have anything like this."

While growing up, my family didn't go on many vacations, except maybe "down the shore" once in a while, but it wasn't because we couldn't afford it so much as that my family (read father) could not get along! Constant fighting! Not a happy childhood. Parents divorced finally 19 years later.

When my DH and I married, we each had gone through divorces in order to be together. We went on our honeymoon to WDW (when it was just Magic Kingdom!) 21 years ago, and I'll never forget my DH's face when he saw it for the first time! He was like a little kid and his mouth and eyes were wide open all the time!

We've been to Disney numerous times since then (we've lived in FL for 13 years and it's closer now), and we NEVER grow tired of it! People can't understand why. It's because we've watched it grow. We always find something new and exciting, while still giving us that "at home" feeling of familiarity.

Now we feel the same with DCL. It truly is Magic! We will never let our DD forget or minimize her good fortune. She's a good kid -- just needs to be reminded once in a while!:D

We are blessed...and it is not only our children that need to be reminded once in a while...when things seem to be hard and the every day life seems to be the same old thing....I contstantly have to tell myself that life is special...and to have your health and good family is so important....there are a lot of rich people out there without being healthy...and the bottom line all the money in the world will not help them when they get sick....and that is why I take one day at a time and enjoy planning my visits to WDW and the Disney cruise...and I try to make the cruise time extra special with adding some days on in the resorts...although I will only cruise once a year since I want to keep it special....with all the threats in the world we live in you have to count your blessings.....we live in New York and we feel the whole place has changed since 9/11....and I have made it a point to change myself...we were in Disney World that horrible day and it is something that we will never forget....just try to make each day count and thank the good Lord for giving us another day on earth...and the wisdom and power to make another reservation in our favorite place on earth.....thanks all for the great posts...I have enjoyed reading them....and keep them coming!

Hello Everyone, I love this post and thought it was the perfect time to "bump" it up. Happy Holidays!

had to respond to this as Ive just returned from WDW as our cruise vacation that I had planned 11 months for was cancelled. Do I feel lucky? not at all

Great post! I am also grateful and feel so very blessed. As a kid I went to Disneyland once and DH had never been. It's funny, I still get that same "magical" feeling I did when I went as a kid. Now my kids feel that way too. Some people think my kids are spoiled because we have been to DL, WDW and the cruise so many times. We are definetly not rich but the memories we have made together on these vacations are worth a million bucks to me. I'm also mom to 3 boys so as they get older and our interests change, we have one thing in common that we all love - Disney. Thanks Walt!! :D

I feel blessed too! We have people think that we are 'rich' too because of our vacations. But it all gets down to what you enjoy. Our Disney trips bring us so much happiness, not only during the trip, but the dreams we enjoy waiting for it to come along.

We love spending time as a family doing something we ALL love. Disney is something that we do all love--we don't do it just for the kids. We have taken our kids to other amusement parks (Kings Island and Dollywood and a couple of Six Flags). Those trips were FOR the kids. DH and I didn't enjoy them. But when we go to Disney, whether it is the cruise or to WDW, we ALL have a great time and I think that makes for much better memories. These are the vacation memories that will fill my childrens' minds and they will remember them forever.

I recently told DH that Disney is my 'therapy'. When things are not going well (and recently we got some bad news that has made me feel down), Disney is like a beautiful dream for me to dream about! Last Friday we went to Disney On Ice--The Princess Classic, and it was wonderful! That will have to 'hold' me until March when we make our way to WDW (and we are trying the Disney Hilton Head resort for the first time on our way there).

Yes, we are so lucky! And I am so glad that Walt Disney was given the 'vision' to create such a beautiful place for families to enjoy! Let's hope that his dream continues on for many generations to come!

Debra
