Are Zebra Domes only available at Animal Kingdom Resort or

This is random, but I've never actually had a zebra dome. We're going in Dec, and I'm excited to try one!

:sad2: Like mentioned, you cannot get zebra domes at Disney's Animal Kingdom park.
(which surprises me)

Zebra domes are found on the buffet at Boma and at the Mara food court in Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. :thumbsup2

The Mara- AKL

Zebra Domes :)

They are delicious bites of goodness. Found AFAIK only at Boma and the Mara at AKL.

A chocolate/coffee mousse on a spongecake base. Covered in white chocolate and drizzled with dark chocolate. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard.

They're so good! If you're ever by AKL, you could get a package at the Mara.

In case y'all want to make them at home . . .

Zebra Dome Recipe

Ingredients
■1 pound milk chocolate
■4 cups whipping cream
■5 egg yolks
■1/4 cup + 1 tbsp white sugar
■6 sheets gelatin (this is equal to 1.5 of the 1/4 ounce packets of powdered gelatin in1/4 cup water)
■1/2 cup Amarula liqueur
■1/4 cup espresso coffee
■3/4 cup white chocolate ganache
■1/4 cup dark chocolate ganache
■1/4 inch thick sponge cake cut into circles that are large enough to cover molds

Ingredients for ganache
■1.25 litres of whipping cream
■1 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (10 oz semi-sweet chocolate)
■2.5 pounds of white chocolate
■1 tbsp butter

Directions:
1.Melt milk chocolate in medium bowl over a hot water bath.
2.Whip 4 cups of cream to soft peaks.
3.Whisk egg yolks with sugar in a small bowl.
4.Soften gelatin leaves in cold water and remove excess water(if using sheets)
5.Mix gelatin with Amarula and coffee, set bowl over hot water bath to dissolve gelatin.
6.Fold 1/3 of whipped cream into the chocolate.
7.Add first the egg yolk than the gelatin mixtures to the chocolate than fold in the rest of the whipped cream to make a mousse.
8.Pour mousse into forms.
9.Place sponge cake circles on top and place in freezer to set.
10.Once they are hard, unmold and place on a glazing rack.
11.Make white and dark chocolate ganache. (see below)
12.Put dark chocolate ganache in a pastry bag. Ladle white chocolate ganache over each dome to just cover it.
13.Pipe stripes of dark ganache over each dome.
14.Refrigerate domes to allow the glaze to set.

Directions for dark chocolate ganache:
Heat 1 cup of whipping cream in a stainless steel pot over medium heat. In a medium bowl place 1 1/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips (or 10 ounces chopped semi-sweet chocolate of your choice) Once hot, pour cream over chocolate and add 1 tbsp of butter. Combine well and set aside at room temperature.

Directions for white chocolate ganache:
Heat 1 quart (1 litre) of whipping cream over meduim heat. In a large bowl put 2.5 pounds of chopped white chocolate. Once hot, pour cream over chocolate and stir until well combined. Set aside at room temperature.

ZOMGoodness ZEBRA DOMESssssssssss

These delicious lil tidbits are in the cooler section at The Mara. At first I wasn't sure of them but after the first bite, I hid them from the kids so they wouldn't eat them all before I got a 2nd one :rotfl2:

Opposing view here - zebra domes are much overhyped. We found them to be rather mushy bits of cake without a lot of flavor. What there is is derived from the alcohol that they are doused with before baking.

I'm not a super fan of them either :duck: but they are also often found in the CL lounge of the AKL too. ;)

Ugh! I was getting excited until I read this post. I hate desserts that have alcohol in them

Same here. It's an instant turn off. I cannot stand ANY combination of alcohol and dairy products, either. I'd rather drink a straight shot of Bacardi 151 than have one sip of a "mudslide", ugh!

LOVE AK, AKL, Boma, and The Mara, but not a zebra dome fan. I think the highlight of The Mara is the AMAZING butternut squash soup! :worship:

I didn't like them but I don't like coffee. There are other great desserts at Boma so I didn't mind.

Crap, I had no idea that they had alcohol :guilty: We do not drink or eat anything with alcohol in it for religious reasons.

Thanks for posting the recipe! They seem like they'd be good to try at home, especially since the homemade version could probably have the alcohol left out. (I'm assuming--correct me if the alcohol is necessary for the recipe to turn out right.)

Yeah, I was beyond excited to try these due to the reviews here, but it wasn't a dessert I'd go out of my way to get again.
