I love the idea of a Disney World wedding. But I'm worried that it will seem really tacky to everyone involved. Plus, if this is supposed to be a fairy tale come true, do I really want it to be like everyone else's wedding at Disney World?

How are you balancing the idea of having a unique, authentic, once-in-a-lifetime wedding with the fact that all these resorts have packages that thousands of other couples have paid for too? I.e. My wedding is just going to be exactly like the other couples who bought my package.*

Is it a turn off that resorts have specific packages that already have set fees?

You can't look at your wedding as any others. You will add something that is your own unique touch. It is what you want for a wedding. I will be adding my own touches and at the end of the day it will be my wedding and will not resemble anyone elses.

I am doing an escape wedding and have not made many upgrades but love the fact that it is very stress free. I am happy that we are going to Disney for our wedding. Do what will make you happy, in the end that is all that matters.

Just something to think about:

Will your guests (family & friends) know that your wedding format is similar to other Disney weddings?

Probably not.

For the most part only you will know that your wedding is similar to other Disney weddings. And as the prior poster stated: You add your own special touches to your wedding to make it your own!!

If you'd like a Disney wedding: Go for it!

I would never take mine back in a million years! It was amazing!
Hth! :littleangel:

I'm not really sure what packages your referring to?

there is a long thread that i believe shows up on the first page about how to handle criticism of a disney wedding - you might find it a good read!

Every church, banquet hall, beach, garden, etc outside of Disney has also been used by a million other people for their wedding too. Unless your friends and family have all had Disney weddings, yours will be unique to them.

I agree with PrincessShea's comment. Also, it is very easy to add you own ideas and touches, even to one of the packages.
If you think Disney weddings are tacky, perhaps it is not the venue for you.

Don't all weddings follow the same traditions and conventions regardless of location. (Western weddings) You have a ceremony, the bride and groom agree to a legally binding contract between them. Sometimes you may have dinner afterwards, sometimes you don't. in essence everyones wedding are the same, it's the details that make them individual, flowers, special vows, the people you share the day with.....

Considering the OP's chosen screen name and that this is his/her first and only post, I got the impression that this was a troll basically saying that Disney weddings are in essence, tacky. Just my $.02.

I think you may be right. I went on and they only made one post.

First off, I agree with this.

Second, I've been to a million and one weddings that involved a church and a banquet hall. All pretty standard, right down to the electric slide. Nothing really unique.

The plans for our wedding day...
  • Ceremony at Boardwalk's SBP
  • Outdoor reception at Yacht/Beach Club
  • After the reception, we'll all meander around the Boardwalk, watch the entertainment, win some stuffed animals... whatever...
  • Then, we'll head over to Epcot for our Illuminations Dessert Party
I have never been to a wedding like this here in Chicago or anywhere. And I can say with absolute certainty that our guests haven't either. So for us, at least, it will be a unique experience.

I kinda blew the whole "once-in-a-lifetime" thing anyway since this will be my second marriage. I just want an event with my fiance and our Brady-Bunch-esque band of kids celebrating and having an amazing time.

Sorry, not a troll here. I'm a student writing a research paper about destination weddings (Why people choose to have them, Can they really be unique, does it turn couples off to buy a wedding package)

See I don't really believe you. All you have to do is look at the Disney wedding website to see that the weddings are gorgeous and not tacky, not to mention that you would know that the "packages " you speak of don't exist. That's great if you don't like Disney and feel like Trolling, but do it elsewhere, we're happy here without the drama.

If you are truly looking for opinions on destination weddings there are more appropriate open ended questions you could ask...

  • Why did you choose to have a destination wedding?
  • What attracted you to that particular destination?
  • How were the reactions of your guests to their invitations?
  • Was your turnout smaller or larger than you had anticipated?
  • Did you find a destination difficult to plan from another location?
  • What "special something" did you plan for your guests?

There are endless options that don't involve the word "tacky". You are not going to find anyone here who considers a Disney wedding tacky. Do a little reading on the Disney Wedding planning journals and you will find that no 2 weddings are alike.

Hummm, your posts do not in any way contradict each other....

I agree, the first one you stated "I love the idea of a Disney World wedding. But I'm worried that it will seem really tacky to everyone involved. Plus, if this is supposed to be a fairy tale come true, do I really want it to be like everyone else's wedding at Disney World?"

Then you say you are doing a report for school. I think you should get your story straight. As PP mentioned you will not hear anyone call a Disney Wedding "Tacky".

Personally i dont give a stuff if anyone thought my disney wedding idea was tacky. All i can say is at the end of the day its what we want and we are doing it to please ourselves rather than everybody else and we are the ones paying for it. i personally think a disney wedding is more unique than a standard church or stately home wedding (no offence to those who who are having a wedding like that) most of my friends have done their wedding like that and i wanted something a bit more fun and different and we get a holiday at the same time.

The only downside i see in doing a destination wedding for us is that not all our close friends and family can come due to the cost for which we understand. I really didnt want to have home wedding and spend the money on people who you see once in a blue moon, we would rather spend the extra cash and treat ourselves and the kids to a unforgettable experience.

Hi,

My advice to you is go for it!!

I am probably biased as I was a "Disney Bride" myself 15 years ago but let me tell you I would do it all in exactly the same way in a heartbeat.

I never, eva tire of telling people all that I did on my wedding day and the looks of amazement on their faces when they listen is priceless. Comments like:- how magical, how different, what a fabulous way to get married....just a few. U really can make the day your own, as I did. I would say that 90 percent of couples nowadays do the traditional church thing, which is fine if thats what you want but you would be doing something totally different to the most....something just for you and your partner and the details you choose are down to you. Our wedding co-ordinator was fabulous and organised everything we wanted. I am from the UK and therefore everything was done via email and telephone and it turned out just perfectly.

If this is what you want don't be deterred. Hope you get the wedding of your dreams.

Sarah
