Olympic competitors like Paul Hamm and Carly Patterson are skipping out of the closing ceremony in Athens and heading to Miami for the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, the New York Daily News reported.

The Video Music Awards, which always has been held in either New York or Los Angeles, is venturing into new territory this year with the Miami show. The network plans to take advantage of the beach town: Celebrities will be ferried to the red carpet on luxury yachts.

Figment #22, I am not familiar with that. What happened? I'm not sure that we can compare the situations as the referees don't award points or take away mandatory deductions.

I was 14 years old and I'll never forget it. I was glad that the team refused to accept the silver medal. Back then, the US actually fielded a basketball "team", not just a collection of spoiled, arrogant, overpaid celebrities.
