Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

If you're unsure, a basic guideline is:

Do large crowds (weddings, concerts, etc) energize or deplete you?
If they deplete you, you are likely and introvert; if they energize you, you are likely an extrovert.

Do you need time to yourself (ie, alone) to re-charge and re-center?
If you do, then you are likely an introvert.

This is by no means a scientific test! I was just interested :goodvibes

I am very much an introvert.
Which was hard growing up in a family of extroverts.

I am definitely an extrovert. I hate being alone.

I'm a natural introvert who poses as an extrovert! It was necessary for me professionally and I worked so hard at it that I actually have some extrovert tendencies now. People who do not know me well are sure I'm an extrovert, but those who know me best know I have to have my alone time.

Introvert for sure. I LOVE being alone and not having to strike up conversations - I'm good at small talk, but I don't like it.;)

I'm very much of an introvert. I MUST have time each week (plus a little each day -- maybe just a few minutes on the computer, or I'll go read for a little while) to myself. I get really crabby if I don't have that. I also don't like crowds at all.

Interesting...

There's usually 3 extroverts for every introvert (75% to 25%). Can't say it surprises me given that this is an online chat forum though! ;)

Let's put it this way. In the 4th grade my teacher put this word on the board and used ME as an example.... that and the word "charismatic". I will NEVER forget that!

Yep, an "in yo face" kind of Extrovert.

I think I'm a little bit of both, and both come naturally to me. I have no problems meeting people or carrying on conversations with others. If you met me, you definitely think I was an extrovert. And I've always had jobs that require me to be an extrovert, and I've always been successful.

On the other hand, I definitely need to sometime by myself. I need to spend some time in quiet, reading or just doing nothing.

My wife is a total extrovert, but thankfully she understands that I need sometime to myself. Well, most of the time she understands. :)

I think I am more of an introvert! I need time to myself to refocus and the only way I can truly relax is if I am by myself! However, I feel absolutely comfortable in social situations, I like to be around people! Maybe I'm a bit of both! :confused3

I'm an introvert. I'm usually shy and tend to keep to myself, but once I get to know someone, it's hard to believe I'm really shy. It takes a while for me to open up, but when I do, oh boy......

I voted that I'm not really sure. I used to be very shy and I'm not nearly as shy as I used to be, but I still get very nervous meeting new people. However, I am a people person and love to be around people--I like to talk, get to know others, and be in groups (not large groups, though).

So basically, I'm confuzzled! :rotfl: And when out and about shopping, etc, you'd never know that I'm shy. :) It's the planned meetings when I'm expected to talk that really get me (DIS meets :scared: ), but even though they are out of my comfort zone, I really enjoy them, too. :woohoo:

Not shy at all. I like to meet new folks and getting to know them. Crowds don't bother me at all. BUT if I start getting jostled about and bumped into too much, I get cranky.

Nevertheless, I do like "me" time and love it when I get a chance.

Introversion/Extroversion really doesn't have anything to do about being shy or "anti-social." It's a common misconception.

It's more about an energy continuum and how you get it. Introverts need time alone and away from people and stimuli to gain energy; they also have less energy to expend than extroverts. Extroverts get their energy by being with people and in the thick of things. They move from one event, person, place to another to gain energy.

You just described my son and my sister, both introverts. Both of them freak out at the idea of meeting new people but after they are one on one they are fine. One on one you can't get them to shut up but the minute they're put into a situation that involves groups of people to meet, they get that deer in headlights look that I've been trained to protect and help other people to not see!

Most of my friends are painfully shy because I've always known how to deal with shy people because of my sister. She's 11 months older than me and I've always been the kid who did the tapdance to get the attention away from her because she couldn't stand it. 50 years of being her confidante has given me lots of experience.

I actually prefer being around introverts. Since they don't share themselves with everybody they make you feel special that they're sharing themselves with you.
