Are you a secret snob?

Oh boy...I'm not sure I even want to go here, cause I know I'm a snob about a lot of things.

I am a snob about nice teeth; straight, clean....obviously not everyone had the opportunity for orthodontics, but that was one of my pre-requisites for a husband...nice teeth please.

I am a snob about my make-up....I think about everything I have is Clinique, but I only buy 2-3 times a year, and I try to limit it at $50 a pop each time.

Shoes- I HAVE to wear nicer shoes because I have foot issues. I prefer Clarks. I like my kids to have good, name brand shoes as well, but I shop at Nordstrom Rack in order to get at least 1/2 price.

I am a snob about most of my kid's clothes, but I can only justify that by shopping at either the outlets or when the clothes are on sale. I cannot afford Gap and Gymboree at full price.

I'm kinda snobby about kitchen stuff- I like to have quality baking instruments (almost all Pampered Chef) and quality pots and pans.

A lot of things I am not snobby about- if I can find a store brand ( I am continuously impressed with Costco's Kirkland brand) then I have no problemo buying store brands to save a few $$.

What I am horrible about---keeping a clean car! I am awful about it and maybe this thread will guilt me into getting out there and cleaning out my car and vacuuming it this afternoon.

OK...I admit it....I'm a total food and wine snob :o . I know I shouldn't be...and I'd never say anything out loud...but I do love my fine food and wine  .

I am too. Were you possibly a journalism or english major in college? I was! :)

Living in Northern California for many years I got SO tired of the wine snobs, but I am just as bad about beer and tea.

I love hot tea but am very, very picky about my tea. I either import it or go to an Indian store that is nearby. For years I couldn't figure out why I loved tea in England and Australia, but not in the US - not too bright of me was it?

Most of the tea for the American market is just not the same. Assam is my favorite loose tea- there are several kinds at Fortnum and Mason and other specialty stores in the UK.

I prefer loose tea, but there are certain tea bags (Yorkshire Gold) that I carry in my purse. Lipton is just fine for iced tea, but I don't drink it hot.

I don't drink beer that often but when I do I want it to have some taste - I don't want to waste my time on something like Bud light. Guiness Stout is a favorite of mine.

I think I might fall into that "trash" category too.

I am a Gymboree snob. :teeth: I looooooooooooove Gymboree.

ok If we're being honest I'm trash too but I'm still a Disney snob!

I am a local business snob. I truly believe that chain stores are ruining this country and I do my best to only shop at local businesses. I never shop at Wal-Mart, especially now after that special that came out the other night. The Wal-Mart of today is not what Sam Walton intended, I am sure of that.

I am a grocery snob. I am very frugal about many things, but when it comes to food, I buy the best at the store, no matter what it costs. I really believe that you are what you eat. I don't do fast food hardly ever nor do I do things like frozen meals. I will buy time-saver type foods, like already prepared salad or vegetables, as long as they are organic and look fresh and I know I will use them within a day or two. I don't buy 40 lbs of chicken breasts just because I can. There is a limit to how long food can be frozen and I want quality.

I'm a snob about eating out. Not necessarily where I go or what it costs, but what I choose to order. If I'm not sure of quality, I order a salad and soup. If a restaurant messes that up, they deserve to close.

I'm a snob about cooking utensils. I'd rather have a $50 paring knife that will last me a lifetime, than pay $25 for a cheap set of knives.

I'm a vitamin snob. There is a difference.

I'm a booze snob. Sorry, but generic brand spiced rum does not taste the same as Captain Morgan's which doesn't taste as good as the Jamaican Premium type. When it comes to booze, you get what you pay for. Same for vodka, or anything else.

I'm also a wine snob. In this category, however, I have learned that price doesn't mean quality. I have tasted and purchased $6.99/bottle wine that I would put up against $180/bottle any day.

I'm a jewelry snob. I've learned to spot quality, regardless of the price and I am a huge snob of antique jewelry. This requires a keen eye, a good knowledge of what to look for in quality and price (which requires reading, listening, asking, practice and alot of times just guessing on your gut feeling), and alot of digging through antique stores, yard sales, want ads, etc. I've made many mistakes which I end up ebaying at a loss, and I wear alot of non-mistakes which catch many eyes and which I didn't pay much for. I'm also a silver snob - I'd rather wear silver than gold and that is usually what I look for and invest in.

I'm also an antique snob. See above.

I'm a coffee and tea snob.

I am a detergent snob, but only because allergies dictate it. There's really not that much of a cleaning difference if you know what you are doing with what you have.

I'm a cosmetics snob.

Of course, as the OP said these are all "secrets" :hyper: and none of them are anything I would require of any one I know.

OMG, I bought DS the CUTEST pair of tiny little black dress shoes at Gymboree tonight. I think I'm gonna die over how cute they are. When I got home, my MIL and I were squealing over them and DH was rolling his eyes. THEN, the baby woke up (probably because of the squealing) so I actually tried the shoes ON him instead of trying to get him back to sleep right away! :o :D

 I am a toenail snob - unkempt toenails gross me out!!

Oh dear Lord, I have found my new best friend!! Unkempt toenails are the grossest! On our last trip to WDW (it was the last time I was somewhere warm enough for exposed toes), I told my DH there is a whole world out there that I need to start a charity for and donate nailclippers!

Toenails should not extend beyond your toe! They are not fingernails!!!

Ugh, and dont even get me started on guys with long fingernails!

I hate the toenail thing too. My kids hate to see me coming if I have the clippers in hand! The kids have an old toothbrush in the bathtub for their nails.
How 'bout when women let their toenails grow real long then shape and paint them as if they were fingernails? I hate that too.

I am a hair product snob... I will only use a certain kind of shampoo & conditioner that I now have to order special to get. I also won't use just any type of other product on my hair... usually if it can be bought at the grocery store, I won't buy it :o

I am also a peanut butter snob... Jif and only Jif in my house
(same goes for a number of name brand foods... but not near to the extent that PB is for me)

Christmas Tree Snob. I will never allow a fake tree in my home!!!!

This is the only "snob" issue I could relate to.

BUT - three years ago, I succumbed to my lazy streak and bought a fake tree. I still feel guilty about it.

When my children were young, or when I lived close enough to my grandchildren, I would fight rather than erect a "fake" tree.

Old age reveals many a weakness.

I am pretty laid back about "ownership" and "pride" items. Whatever floats your boat is OK by me.

But I am pretty "snobbish" about basic fairness and courtesy. I cannot stand greed and disrespect.

JUST KIDDING !!!!!!

Clean restaurant and hotel snob. I have walked out of more than I can count because of cleanliness issues. I know that I've been thought of as a snob about many other things also, and it really has more to do with quality than with cost/brand. I like to think of it as having high standards. ;)

LOL, that bothers me too about hotels and restaurants. I always check the hotel room first to make sure that it is clean! I have to turn down the beds and inspect the bathroom.:earseek:

I am also a food snob, because I like organic and fresh over processed and yucky. I won't even touch anything like scrapple or spam. Who knows what is really in that stuff!:earseek:

I think Keli was correct - most of you are not snobs in the true sense of the word. Most of you don't seem to judge others if they don't follow your preference in something. I'd be more inclined to label you as particular.

I guess I've somewhat revealed my own snobbery. I'm a language snob. I like to be precise in my use of words to be sure to convey the exact message intended. Some people seem to be very sloppy in their approach to language. I'm not referring to grammar or spelling so much as misuse of a word.

Other than that, I generally fall into the group of people about which the snobs wrinkle their collective noses. ;)

We don't even have that brand out here!!! I think I do use the same brand under a different name, though. I may be common white trash but I do have my standards. ;)
