Are we the only people that still do our own taxes?

I've always done my own. I used to work in a public accounting office where we used the Turbo Tax Professional (long before it was bought by Intuit) so I naturally began usuing TT for my own as well. I also do returns for many of my friends and family.

We've been doing our own taxes for years and years now.

I do our taxes. I used Tax Cut one year and Turbo Tax another year, but the last couple of years, it has just been easier to download the required forms from http://www.irs.gov.

DH does have small business, so I had to figure that all out, which took time and was a hassle. Maybe I'm just a masochist?

I have an expandable folder and file all relevant papers as we get them during the year: DH's pay stubs, student loan bills (showing the deductible interest), charitable donation receipts, bills/receipts from DH's business, copies of property tax payments, etc... Filing everything neatly right away makes doing taxes a snap!

(I have relatives who have a business and don't file everything properly. Instead, they shove the receipts and bills into bags and boxes. It takes them a couple months just to organize their papers to send them on to their CPA. :crazy2: A half hour to set up a filing system and then 15 minutes a week to file their papers would save a lot of hassle.)

I do mine. Heck I was in my late 30's before I found out not everyone did their own (sheltered I know).

I have always done ours. No Turbo Tax either. I do them on paper and send them in. At the end of the day if you work for someone and receive W-2's and 1099's for interest income, its just not that hard to do. As a good friend of mine always said at tax time, its time to get out my purple crayon and do my taxes.

I've been doing ours since we retired in 2000. That year I used TurboTax and did them in parallel with our CPA. Since then it's been easy.

I am an accountant but not a CPA or tax professional. I refuse to do anyone else's taxes.

I use Turbo Tax ever since I bought real estate and could itemize. Before that I filed on the 1040EZ form, and it actually IS easy! I could do the 1040 form and Schedule A by hand, but TT does make it much easier.

I never did understand why people go to places like H&R Block. Why pay someone to do it when you can do it yourself as good or better? And if your taxes are complicated (own your own business) then you'd want to take them to a real CPA, not a store front that is open from Jan. 15 until April 30.

I have always done my own...and egads  ......by hand....

I was starting to wonder if I was going to be the only one who said I not only do them myself but I do them with a PENCIL and PAPER! Of course the final copy I do in ink. ;)

I was a little worried this year because DH changed companies and had some weird early disbursement things with 401K blah blah blah. I called the IRS, they walked me through it line by line, so far so good! The website says we will have our refund by March 28! :thumbsup2

My dad is an inactive CPA and he does my personal and corporate taxes for me, my husband, and our business which is so nice of him

I do our taxes. We don't have anything out of the ordinary or complicated. I just don't want someone else looking into our private info. I work in a library and as soon as the tax prep books come out for the current tax year, I take them home and read them. Strange I know but I only read the chapters that we need to prepare our taxes.
