Are we supposed to ask for a GAC card and how is it used?

Hello all

My DH is going through intense chemo and will get a break so we can take our dh6 to Disney for his 7th birthday.

Should I ask for a GAC? I am going to rent him a scooter so he will not have to walk long distances. He should be able to stand out of the scooter to get on rides. He just has little engery and suffers from what most people going through chemo suffer from.

If I get a GAC pass, what does that mean? Does he get in a different line?? I have no clue what to expect. Do I have to bring any paperwork?

Thanks

Margaret

No, you don't need a GAC. The scooter will 'act' as one. There are a few attractions where he may be asked to leave the scooter outside and either walk in (which obviously would be a hardship) or where they'll provide you with a manual wheelchair to push him. Some that come immediately to mind are Winnie the Pooh, Pirates of the Caribbean, and um, Ellen's Energy Adventure.

If you haven't already, check into the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board. One section is all about GACs.
As was already mentioned, usually someone using a wheelchair or ECV (scooter) doesn't need a GAC because the CMs can see that they need to use an accessible entrance (if the regular line is not accessible). The GAC is more for invisible needs. The time you are going should be fairly slow with short waits, so you may find the wait isn't a problem. If he plans to leave the scooter and walk in lines, you do want to find out from the CM at that attraction how long the walk is - some may have a short wait, but be a long walk (like It's Tough to Be a Bug).
You also don't need to get a GAC on the first day of your trip. You may find that he is having problems or has needs just having the scooter don't meet that a GAC might help with later in your stay. You can always go to Guest Relations and explain what problems he is having.
