Are there resorts/UYs that are harder to rent your points out on?

Just thinking ahead, if I were unable to use/bank my points one year (or for a few), are there certain resorts and/or Use Years that are harder to rent points out for than others? Like If I got a SSR contract for March, October, December or something? What about VB vs on-site? Right now, we're pretty open on when we can vacation since we homeschool, but who knows what the future holds :) TIA!

I would not recommend you purchase DVC if your ownership hinges on the ability to rent out your points. Things can change with DVC and the day may come when renting may not be an option. At this point in time, there are many more owners trying to rent out their points and it is no longer as easy as it used to be. Plus there is liability on your part since you are responsible ultimately as the owner if there were damage, unpaid charges on the room, etc. I would wait until you are sure you can comfortably cover the cost of ownership yourself. :)

Ownership for me doesn't hinge on being able to rent out points (not right now and not likely to be in the future since I have a partial guaranteed income as a disabled veteran that is enough for my living expenses and MFs together, but I'm a "cover all the bases" kind of girl), but I'd hate to unknowingly buy points that are currently harder to rent out then others if there *was* a time I'd want to rent them out, kwim? TYVM for the info that it is getting harder to rent out points, that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for (things I just don't see because I'm still in the early research stages). More than likely, I'd rent them out to friends anyway (I'd just hate to see points go to waste if they weren't used one year because we chose not to go or had to cancel a trip after banking ended). Thanks again!

You can always make a reservation 11 months ahead of time at your home resort regardless of your use year. I can't think of why one use year would be harder to rent out than another because of that.

Resorts on the other hand can matter. Certain resorts have rooms that are in high demand at 11 months, but as of now all points are equal at 7 months.

I kinda see what you mean ,I guess you do always have the eleven month booking window - so most likely fine for renting .
What I did notice though when I was looking for resale points at BLT was that the Feb. use year contracts where going very quickly -then I saw here on the
boards somewhere the a breakdown chart on the different use years and Feb had many more contracts already sold -
So my thought on it was many more contracts that could be sold in that use year and also many more people that might be looking to add on to that use year -
I know this doesn't answer your rental question very well ,maybe someone more knowledgeable on renting will have a more definitive answer for you -

Careful with assumptions. Right now you have the eleven month booking window - but that might not be "always." DVC has been making lots of changes over the year, and booking window is one they could conceivably change. A lot of the changes that ten years ago were "unlikely" have come to pass - and more will come.

They have to give home resort owners a one month preference. But only a month.
