Are there More "Want to Rent DVC Points" than seller of points now?

I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but there seems to be more "want to rent points" than owners renting their points since the dining plan has become available to DVC. Anybody notice this on the rent/trade board?

I've never rented my points (we've pretty much only received transfers from other members when we were short on points).

But it just seems like a lot of threads over there for people wanting to rent points vs. people selling points.

I also wonder if it's got something to do with the general public codes drying up?

I had been on the Dis for a couple of years before I even discovered the rent board. I always just assumed that it was out of my price range. Well once I started researching more and realizing the value in renting we not only rented, but bought 150 points in the same month.

I agree, from the looks of it, there are alot more wanting points than those renting. Most are renting small amounts and then the ones with alot of points, their points are gone very quickly or very distressed.
I think many "serious renters" have found other venues where they can get more than $10 per point.
The demand is going to continue to increase, because the codes were pitiful this time compared to years past.

So, should DVC members subsidize non-members vacations because Disney won't anymore? I think lots of non-members want to rent a reservation because they can still get the dining package and they don't have to pay rack rate and buy tickets as part of the package.

I agree with Deb & Bill, we've never rented our points and fortunately for us we have added on when we needed more points, and eventually we will reach our total goal of 800 (200 for each of our DK families) But I really am amazed as I tour various boards and constantly see talk of what a "bargin" rentin DVC points is and how much can be saved using the DVC perks like DP w/o ticket purchase etc. it almost makes me wonder if tying tickets to DVC DP won't be coming in the future.

Since we aren't interested in renting our points I probably shouldn't comment at the risk of sounding corny, but I miss the days of people buying points for their F&F enjoyment and DVC boards being about sharing tips and ideas. Other than that I am always one to celebrate a good bargain.

I wonder if it's because this website is listed in the latest Unofficial Guide. I was browsing at the bookstore and was surprised to see The Dis listed as an option for the rental of points. I don't recall seeing this in the older guide I have at home.......

Ah, that would certainly explain it!! The "secret" is definitely out. Plus I think a lot of those surplus SSR points from people joining during the F&F promo have evaporated. Can't say I'm sad to see the situation turned back in the owners favor.

I agree about the secret being out!! I didnt know it was in the OG!! I thought the word was being spread by Mousesavers and this board! No wonder the increased traffic!

But has anyone noticed, that some of our most infamous renters have been MIA. They had thousands of points, but definitely did not subscribe to the $10 per point! They must have found greener pastures.

Deb and Bill, I agree also about the Resort side drying up! They dont have to give their rooms away anymore and they dont care how many times you stayed with them on a cut rate in the past! They are making money and there is a market out there willing to pay the going rate. If that market falls off, then the bargain hunters will always be there.

A Deluxe package with tickets and dining will save you $125 off rack with the current AP code. That means those rooms will still average $300 per night (except WL and AKL) with code plus add tickets and DP. Renting points is like getting the Dining and tickets for free!

I do believe DVC members are selling themselves short by focusing on the very low end of the bargain hunters. The risks involved offer a tremendous rate of return and there really is no need to give the units away. Disney is not doing it and neither should the membership. We have one of the most desireable timeshares in the world.

Discounts are down, the Dining plan without Ticket purchase is a huge part and mostly you can rent points for stays Sunday-Thursday for almost half what Disney charges.

Plus it seems about every other post on the Resort board is pushing renting points.

Yes, I have noticed that too. I think there was just a tremendous amount of fatigue with all the bargain hunting. I used to browse the r/t boards just for fun but stopped doing it because all the price dickering was irritating me and I don't even have a vested interest in renting. I don't really care one way or another about renting but it seemed there for a while that it was really getting ridiculous with all the price cutting and the flood of available points. I think we are seeing a backlash. There were definitely some heated feelings starting to develop and I was beginning to feel a real sense of tension on the DVC boards. Hopefully some of that has now passed.

It was also published for sure in the 2005 edition under the hotel reviews and I think also in the 2004 edition so I'm not sure you could blame it on that since it has probably been a little over 2 years since that info was published. Maybe it is simply the dining plan that is causing the fuss :confused3
