The BF & I are big indian food fans, we paticularly lovew indian buffets (indian food tastes better the longer it's kept warm or reheated)

Looking through the various food outlets & restaurants in WDW we could see every kind of cuisine on the planet bar indian.

I hope i'm just being blind, are there any decent indian restaurants in WDW at all?

Nope. The closest would be Marrakesh at Epcot, which is Middle Eastern food, not Indian.

You should definitely make reservations at Sanaa, TS restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (it's located where the new villas are).

They have a menu with mostly Indian dishes:

Tusker House is a buffet in Animal Kingdom park. It's definitely not an Indian buffet, but they do often offer some Indian dishes.

I'd go with Sanaa though-I think you will enjoy their menu!

We LOVED Sanaa and it was described to us, when we visited, as a fusion of African and Indian. It was so wonderful and the service is excellant!!!

I like Sanaa, and I like Indian food, but Sanaa didn't really scratch the Indian food itch for me. YMMV.

I agree that the closest you will come is Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Villas' Kidani Village. Next best is Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom park. Both are excellent!

the nearest pub also does chicken curry but it doesn't mean it serves indian food. Sanaa & Tusker House has 1 or 2 options which are indian, yet it's not an indian restaurant.

I'm intrigued, indian food is everywhere in the UK, is it not that popular in the US or does WDW just avoid indian restaurants for an unknown reason?

It just hasn't made it to WDW. I'm not sure why. The Unofficial Guide lists a few offsite places, but I have no idea if they are any good.

Another vote for Sanaa. My DH is Indian and said the food there was the best Indian food he has ever had. It is described as a blend of African/Indian food but the dishes we ordered were similar to what we get in Indian restaurants (saag, cauliflower and potato, naan, roti, the various chutneys). You won't be disappointed!

I haven't been to Sanaa- am planning to go for our Feb trip. I was talking about this with some of my friends who have been there ( we are all Indian). It's a pretty good Indian food from what they tell me. It's spiced pretty well but not that spicy, and some of the dishes were very similar to those at other Indian restaurants.

They are not Indian restaurants but if you are craving Indian food they do have a few things that are quite good. Sanaa also has (had?) one thing on their menu that is absolutely terrible -- their Dum Biryani dish was the worst thing I have ever had in any restaurant anywhere. I think they took it off the menu fortunately!

It's gradually getting better here in the US but it is nothing like the UK. If you like Indian food you really have to do your homework to find places to eat it.

I have been to Sanna twice. I have also eaten Indian in Scotland and the States. Sanna was very good.

Our local take-aways are not Indian food since we do not have the numbers of immigrant Indians or Pakistanis as the UK. The newest trend (and it's not really new) are fast food Chinese places.

If you are renting a car, Orlando has quite a few Indian food choices.

Well, they are constantly appearing where I live and where I work, but I live in Westchester (NYC northern suburb) and work in downtown Manhattan.
It has really become popular in Westchester over the past 5 years or so, but there are certainly several restaurants that have been around for as long as I can remember (at least 10-15 years or more).
Nearby there is a takeout/delivery place that is fan-friggin-tastic and at one point we were ordering from there at least once a week, though we started cheating by buying frozen naan from Trader Joe's, samosas from the local Indian grocery store, and chutney from Whole Foods to supplement our orders and keep the price down a bit.

Can't get enough of the stuff, really. We love trying different dishes but we also have our favorite dishes we like to get sometimes... There's truly something for everyone in Indian cuisine, and I like to tell people that I haven't met a single person who has tried Indian food and does not like it. Another friend likes to call it the most disgusting looking food you will ever love, but that might be a tad on the cruel side.
When I started my new job 1.5 years ago, one thing that helped me assimilate was finding out that my ENTIRE department of 8 loved Indian food though no one had ever really mentioned it to each before. When I asked if there were any good Indian places nearby I got 5 different answers, before I had even started asking anyone outside our department.

We're staying offsite when we go next week and are DEFINITELY planning on hitting some of the Indian restaurants nearby. Does anyone know what places do takeout well? Or if any places have a buffet at all? Or which places are just really good?

I, too, would like some recommendations for Indian restaurants near Disney. I've seen coupons for a place called Punjab. Has anyone that them?

Tabla Bar & Grill has a daily lunch buffet from 11:30-3:00. Probably not the closest Indian Cuisine to the parks but rated the best in Orlando. It's closer to Universal than Disney.

I haven't been there but I have read good and bad about New Punjab on International if that's the one you mean.
