Are there any circumstances where DVC will allow you to change contract shortly after signing?

Oof, I never factored in deed or total points like that! Im gonna have to copy some stuff from your sheet haha! I love spreadsheets too. How do you calculate your dues? Are you using a normalized increase like I was?

They said to assume a 3.5% increase YOY, so dues would just be a recursive formula: d = 1.035 * d-1
My students when I taught Algebra 1 a few years back: "WHEN AM I EVER GUNNA USE THIS?!?!"

I just did 20 cells forbeach resort with
A1 = current then each cell was the cell before × 1.035 then the sum at the end
Then underneath I had 2 rows
one that was 300 * the BLT amt
the other 160 * BLT + 200 * AKV
Summed that at the end

The usual calculation i do is what is the current per point cost + current dues

My numbers were close enough for yours that I would do direct because the benefits of a longer contract and will be able to be used everywhere... hard to predict what they will do in the future

Why "-1"?
I did d = d * 1.035

What did you end up doing? Was the guide able to work that out for you?

Oof sorry I should have updated this!

Yes, my guide was able to help me with this and I was able to upgrade my contract to 300pts at BLT from a 200pts AKV. They called it a "contract rewrite" and it gave me new contract numbers and a new membership number. I decided to split the 300pts into two 150pt contracts. I wanted to do 3x 100pt contracts but minimum was 150 but I don't know if that was for both or if I could have split the other 150 into 2x 75--but I didn't think to ask at the time.

My old reservation at AKV in December, of course, didn't stick with me but luckily for me, there was space left for a 1BR Lake @ BLT.

The process was really easy and there was almost no work on my part except e-signing the new contracts.

I'm not sure what factors allowed for me to redo the contract but maybe these had something to do with it:

  1. I was upgrading to get more points
  2. I hadn't yet finished paying off initial contract and therefore haven't "closed" (not sure if I am using the right term)
My guide made it seem really easy... it almost seemed like it was a common thing though I'm sure results vary from situation to situation.

Congrautlations and welcome home!

Congrautlations and welcome home!

When the contract was transitioning, I was homeless for a couple days. It's good to be back home as that stint felt like an eternity!! lol!

Awesome news for you. Thanks for sharing this info. And don't worry about AKL, you shouldn't have a problem staying there at the 7 month point. You are going to be spoiled with the BLT 1 BR!

What I love most about AKL (Kidani), BLT, and VGC are their 1BR configurations. That extra bathroom is soo good especially for people like me who are kinda finnicky about bathrooms needing to be private. Like I'll share my bathroom with my partner but that's it lol! The 1BR gives a lot of flexibility and value for traveling with friends and family. They can stay in the living room and they'd have their own bathroom--definitely can save a lot of points that way!

Around the last minute, I was thinking about just purchasing 200 BLT Direct then another 100-150 Resale but ultimately, I think it's really nice now to have 300 points that will work for RIV or DLT when it opens. I want to stay everywhere!!

Excellent! I'm very glad you got what you wanted! Welcome Home!

My thoughts exactly! We love AKV but don't own there because we haven't had any issues getting savannah view at 7 months, which is what we would want there.

Thanks for letting us know how it worked out. The 2 contracts of 150 was a great decision IMO.
Although the 1 br.s can sleep 4/5 you may find that they are a really nice option even when it’s just you & your partner. I really like leaving the bedroom to have coffee in the living room or on the balcony in the mornings and hanging out in the living room in the evenings. I also lug a lot less luggage on my cross country flights to WDW because I use the stacked washer/dryer in the 1 br. + villas do a load of laundry most nights.

Yes the 1BR is so nice for just the two of us because there's so much more room available. It also helps that it's easier to get at my non-home resort! I think I'd only do a studio if I were in a point pinch or traveling solo.

About this contract rewrite.. I WAS thinking about getting an SSR contract for 350points because with the upgraded rooms, they look really nice, modern, and clean! I looked at the floor plans again though and realized I did not like the room configurations.

Even if you get the 2BR, you only get 2 bathrooms AND I find it a terrible decision to make the master bedroom's bathroom shared with the common area whereas the 2nd bedroom gets a private bathroom, regardless of ot being a lockoff or not.

AKL-Kidani and BLT FTW!

Oh and the laundry for the 1BR+ is a huge plus!
