Are there alot of bugs?

Are there alot of bugs at WDW?

  • Yes, everywhere.

  • Some, but no worse than outside your average mid-western/north-eastern home.

  • Only a few.

  • The only bugs I seen were in 'It's Tough To Be A bug!', Disney does a great job fumigating.

  • Only in specific parks or resorts.

  • I am a bug!

I didn't notice a lot of spiders but there is an astonishing number of lizards.

I posted on another thread earlier today that I bring bug spray on each trip & have never had to use it.

We go each May during Epcot's Flower & Garden Festival & have never even seen a bee. It's amazing!!

Now if I could only get the bees out of my yard so that DS8 would not be afraid to go out & play!

I have an unnatural fear of bees. To the point where I sometimes cannot go outside.

I saw one bee in Epcot. At the UK, near the garden. One of those big fuzzy ones that flies in slow motion.....the one type that does not scare me because they seem so...mellow.

This was during the Garden fest last year....1 bee with all those flowers. I wish Disney would come spray our land. The bees love it here. :teeth:

I was probably too glazed over with Disneyitis, but I never noticed any bugs, etc at WDW on any of my trips so far. We had even brought mosquito stuff because my son has a bad reaction to bites, but we never had to use it.

Don't worry about bugs. There aren't any bugs anywhere. The Spiders all ate em.

Just kidding. There were bugs, but we didn't have problems with spiders.

I'm scared of anything that has more than four legs, and I can honestly say I have always been fine at Disney. :goodvibes

The lizards are probably what keeps the bug population down. LOL
Has anyone ever had any of these lizards in their hotel room? :scared1: on or off site?

Every year we go, we like to sit out on the balcony after dark (It is just too warm out to waste sleeping! lol) and we notice that there are NO bugs, at least not near us. We live up here in Mass. and I can't sit outside for more than an hour in the summer because of all the bugs! No bugs is one of WDW best features! :thumbsup2

Not in our room but a family was living in our Airconditioner in the vents .When we would return to the room we would sneek up on them to watch for awhile.

They are ANOLES and we now have 2 of them here at the house Just some more Magical reminders.

I just wanted to add a word of caution.
Since you are an arachnophobic if you go to Animal Kingdom DO NOT go to see the It's Tough To Be A Bug which is located inside the Tree of Life.

Have fun at Disney!

Same here, bugs are bad up here too. That's what I like about WDW you can go out at night and no bugs.

As a lifelong Floridian and a regular Disney visitor, my experience is as follows:

The mosquito population down here generally disappears after the first few cold spells --- somewhere around late November or early December. Then they don't really come out in force again until the rainy season starts. For now, there's not really a problem unless you're out in the woods. If you think you need protection, you'll hear a lot of people recommending the "deep woods" stuff with monstrous amounts of DEET. Frankly, I think that's overkill (pun intended). For most normal vacationing purposes in and around the parks and Orlando, you'll be fine with the lotions and "kids" sprays with just a trace of DEET. They smell a lot better, and they don't give you that weird warming sensation when you start to sweat with it on.

I've never encountered a "bug problem" in the parks, even at dusk in mid-summer when the mosquitos and no-see-ums come out to play. As far as hotels, if you stay on Disney property or in another quality hotel, you probably won't have a bug problem, although to be honest, if you stay in any hotel room with a door that opens to the elements (All-star, motor inns, etc.) you run a slight risk of having a palmetto bug find its way into your room because of the lights. These are big nasty looking creatures that fly around menacingly . . . they're also completely harmless. Like many other insects, they're simply attracted to light and don't know any better than to smack their stupid little insect heads against bulbs and street-lights all night long.

Little known fact: mosquitos are scared of heights. Well, actually, I don't know if that's true or not, but they don't bother flying much higher than 12 feet or so trying to find a nice juicy warm body to suck the blood out of. For that reason, if you're in a hotel that features porches/balconies, you might want to opt to stay on a second-floor room or higher unless there's screening.

Spiders can appear almost anywhere, but I don't think they're any more noticeable than up north.

To me, no-see-ums are more of a nuisance than mosquitos. These are very small little creatures that like to latch on to you and cause itching and irritation. You can't just swat at them, because you can't see them. Insect repellent will usually keep them off. If they're going to be a problem, it's usually at dusk or dawn around water (beaches/pools, etc.). They love exposed ankles. Usually when it gets dark they stop being much of a nuisance.

Some of you mentioned the cute little lizards that are ubiquitous around here -- they are definitely welcome. They eat a lot of bugs, and are otherwise harmless. When I was a kid we liked to catch them and let them try to bite our fingers. Sometimes they'd latch on and you could just let them hang there -- they can't bite hard enough to hurt.

i remember we went one year and the love bugs ?? were everywhere it was really disgusting. i think it was in the spring or fall when we went and they were so bad. it was their mating season and they were "attached" to each other flying around everywhere. they would get in your hair and clothes, they even ended up in the diaper bag. you could see them in all the pictures we took that trip. they won't bite or harm you, they are just really annoying. i am terrified of bugs too, but after a few days i got used to it and it didn't bother me so much anymore.

LOL -- I forgot about love bugs. People joke about them, but in rare instances they can become more than just annoying. I was at a picnic on the beach last year and we got swarmed with the amorous little pests. One little boy got absolutely covered with them and freaked out, developed some sort of breathing problem. He was OK after we brushed him off.

They will swarm in the fall and in the spring. I've seen the front of cars turn black due to so many bugs collected from these love bug swarms. Smell real bad when cleaning them off the car...

Never noticed a BUG problem anywhere on WDW property. However, once I stayed at the CBR and it was overrun with Frogs!
Gribbet!

I have only seen a few bugs, but a few bugs are something you get everywhere. Doesn't bother me at all.

Now, let's talk about the snakes and lizards you see crossing the walkways at certain resorts. Some people only need to see one of those and be freaked out...but not me, of course :thumbsup2
