Are their exceptions for wheelchair babycarriers?

Both DH and I use powerchairs and our youngest is still in a babycarrier.We had planned on friends coming with us to WDW but they will not be able to come with us.Now we are trying to decide if we change when we go, hire a sitter to come with to push a stroller or are we allowed to use our wheelchair babycarrier attachment?

The one we use is simular to this one but is closer fitting up over the lap.This one is set-up for a manual chair our is set-up for powerchair.

If you have a device of arrangement that has equivelent safety charaacteritics as if you were walking (like a baby born) then yes if you challenge the no riders then under ADA they must allow this, assuming that they can not demonstrate a safety hazard beyond hat exists in standard use.

You are not permitted to tow anything at WDW behind a power chair or ECV.

3 years ago I was in animal kingdom and there was a power chair with a child's bike seat mounted on the back I asked them about it and they said it was approved by Disney but it was a long process to have it allowed. I didn't find out how they got it approved but it was interesting

Thanks for the picture- I was not able to get the original poster's link to pull up.
It doesn't give measurements, but it looks to me like it would be too long to fit in most queues and make turns. So my guess is that it would not work.
It would for sure be too long to fit into any of the wheelchair accessible ride cars ( some are tight with my DD's manual wheelchair which is less than 48 inches from the front of her toes to the back of her backpack/back tires. )
It would also be too long to fit in the wheelchair parking spots for almost all shows and even in the wheelchair boarding area for attractions where you would need to transfer to a ride car.
If you are taking buses, it would need to be removed and folded for the bus trip. This would probably need to be done before getting on the bus as I think it would be too long to get up the bus ramp and make the trun to get onto the bus. It would for sure not fit on the lift buses since the platform is only 48 inches long. The wheelchairs would need to be strapped down, which is done by the driver and one of you would need to hold the baby during the ride.

I double checked length for strollers on the Disney website for items not to bring and it says no strollers longer than 52 inches. That is a general guideline for getting around the parks. Since strollers are not usually allowed in lines and your combination would be longer than a common wheelchair, it probably would still not fit in lines even if it's 52 inches long.

I of course have no idea what your disablement is or the size of your child so this may or may not work, but I thought that i would throw it out there just in case. Could you use one of those baby carriers that fits around the front of your body. I saw a person on an ECV wearing on with a baby on our last trip. It would free up your hands and provide a safer place for the child, but if the child is larger then it would not work as well.

Sorry I did not realize the link did not work.Thank you Wheeled for fixing my mistake.With the carrier attached 44 inches long and 24.5 inches wide. I use apermobil K300 PS junior power chair and the baby seat rides over my lap with the wheels in front of my foot rests. I do have attachable back wheels that will turn the carrier into a stroller. I have the documentation we did to get it allowed on the public bus system here at home.I know it would be cheaper to pay a sitter than redo all the safety tests for docing again.

I think you may have a problem in the park. I know that the bus drivers will almost certainly not allow you to be tied down with the child in the stroller. Unless it is a special needs stroller rated for bus travel, they will require you to remove the child from the stroller, and even then there are some drivers who do not understand and require people to remove their children from those strollers.

I totally understand your concern! I am a full time wheelchair user (power or manual) and my wife and I are already figuring out how I will bring my kids to Disney! (I live 6 miles from Disneyland). Also, I have a new nephew and I have no idea how I will transport him.

I do agree that you will not fit into any wheelchair vehicles with the stroller attached. I have a Quantum Q600 and I barely fit into most ride vehicles, and I usually have to adjust chair position to fit.

I can see where this would work for a lot of the open areas, but I also agree that queues would be difficult. I have a hard time maneuvering with my powerchair, as you can be expected to have to open doors and gates for yourself.

It sounds like you will have to do baby swap a lot if one of you cannot transfer, because rides can only handle 1 wheelchair vehicle at a time. This may also make a difference, since you may need to attach and detach the stroller a lot. Can it attach for both chairs?

I forgot to say mine attaches to my chair base instead of the front rigging since it is a powerchair.That saves alot of space.

I just measured my daughter’s manual wheelchair and need to clarify. The 48 inches includes her backpack, which we often need to remove to make the wheelchair fit into the wheelchair accessible ride cars.
The actual wheelchair is 39 inches from very back antitip bars to the front of the footplates. For many of the ride cars, it is a close fit without the backpack.

It we attach it to DHs chair it goes on his front rigging as he uses a bigger chair than I do, and that takes up more space. I had not planned on going on any rides.

Yes, we had transport testing done to get it bus rated. That is the documentation.The seat is like a smaller version of a transport stroller.

KP have you looked at any of the adaptive parenting products?

As an alternative why not use a Moby. It can hold a child up to 35 pounds. I use that or a Bjorn for my grandson in my PWC.

I actually like rolling in a LazyBoy through the parks, but it is very difficult to navigate in a crowd!

I suggest you write to Disney and find out - Perhaps if you call Special Services they will give you an address and you can submit the paperwork you did for the city bus system. At worst, they will say no.

I would be very interested to hear what the outcome is.

KP I tried to get edit to work but could not get it to work. I use Dragon to type and for some reason edit on the web does not always work.

I picked up the cold the kids had last week and Dragon does not understand me as well as normal.
