Are the values really that awful?

I wouldnt say they are awful- you are at disney after all! I have stayed at ASMo twice and it was fine. We actually really enjoyed the food court.

I don't think I would describe any resort as "awful" but we don't like the values.

generally, we go in the summer so the resort is pretty important since we do spend a bunch of time there.

We didn't likethe food courts. to crowded and to much like the food court at the mall.
Rooms were too small. I have 2 sons and 1 husband who are all tall and big. trying to squeeze me and hubby in a double bed? not going to happen and no one wants to sleep on the floor.

We dont think they are awful, they are just not for us.

I've stayed at all levels of resort including Pop and AsMu. While we've determined the values aren't the best fit for us (we prefer the dining options at the deluxes), both resorts were clean, well staffed, creatively designed and totally Disney. We don't/won't stay in chain motels outside of Disney, but Disney doesn't put out a bad product at any level, imho. No resort is perfect, but Disney's bar is far, far higher than Motel 6. I think as a first timer staying on property you'll be pleasantly surprised.

We can't afford to stay deluxe or even mod every trip, but we'd never stay offsite. Once you experience the feeling of being totally immersed in Disney and separated from the real world, you'll be hooked regardless of the level.

Have fun!

Agreed! We had a stay like your October issues at CBR and DH has also said "never again" to that resort.

I've stayed at all of the values - and would stay at any of them again. I'm a Deluxe girl at heart, but if the budget says Value or no WDW, I'm happy to choose a Value resort! I am a person that's extremely sensitive to noise and that's my only real concern when I book a value. I try to remember to bring ear coverings (sometimes just one of those winter headband things) when I'm staying in a value or even a nice hotel I haven't stayed at before.

I was just reading The Unofficial Guide, and according to the tests they have done on in-room noise from traffic outside the room, deluxes are significantly noisier than values. The explanation given was that rooms that open to indoor hallways don't have weather stripping and let more noise in. It was a fascinating read, I like that geeky stuff. It listed all the Disney resorts from loudest to quietest. Good read.
