Are the rooms bigger at GC?

We have DVC points to use next fall and decided to stick closer to home after this last WDW trip with 2 small kids.

I know GC is supposed to be nicer, but are the rooms any bigger than the DLH? Do they have refrigerators? I have seen the rooms at DLH and they are pretty small. Which hotel is more convenient with toddlers?

DLH has the bigger rooms. Your post is the first I've heard about them being small. The GC is closer, but the DLH is more Disney themed. Both have refrigerators available.

GC standard rooms are 353 square feet, DLH are 364-414 square feet.

DLH rooms are bigger than GC - But the GC is a much nicer hotel (IMO). Many families love the DLH for nostalgia and the pool area is fun for kids. It really depends upon whether or not money is an issue, and whether or not you prefer a more formal or casual atmosphere. Either hotel is great just depends upon your needs.

Regarding room size, I would equate the GC room size to a WDW moderate hotel.

In any case, enjoy!!!

We just got back from 4 nights at the GCH and I thought the rooms were on the small side. It was myself, my husband and our 7 month old. The balcony was nice though.

I've stayed at DHL and the room was large. But, I didn't like the hotel that much. I haven't stayed at the GC, but it seems much nicer from the common areas and the rooms are supposed to be comparable to the Wilderness Lodge (which I have stayed in).

I'm going to stay at GC the next time I go. I'd rather have atmosphere than space.

As other have said, the GC rooms are slightly smaller than DLH, but GC is closer to the parks. I've always enjoyed either one.

The problem with the Grand for us is the choice and arrangement of the bedding due to the smaller size. You have a few choices but only certain views come with certain bed types. For example, you can not get a view room (DTD or Park) and have 2 queen beds and the sofa sleeper type room. There are only a few of these that overlook the driveway where you pull up to check in. Then if you do want a view, you can get ONE queen bed with a bunkbed that has a trundle. I don't want "just" queen bed! A DTD view room comes with 2 Queen beds but no other bedding and they have no rollaways at all-you get a sleeping bag for the 5th person although I know you just have 2 kids but still the room size is so limited, they can not fit a daybed if your kids didn't want to sleep together like mine. Then they won't "guarantee" anything except you pay for either a view or no view! I've hear of elderly couples getting the bunk bed rooms but because it is often sold out, there just isn't the chance of moving people around much!

So we always pick DLH and get 2 Queen beds with a sofa sleeper and a free rollaway and have plenty of room. If you are fine with either 2 Qs or 1 Q and a bunk bed for your kids, then you should be fine. If you want the sofa sleeper best to book a standard view and strongly request it! Nothing can beat the walk and with 2 little ones, you will enjoy having a balcony to sit out on a night.

I guess the room at DLH seemed small to me because we are used to DVC villas now. We didn't actually stay there, but our friends were and we checked it out. DD4 is crazy about Peter Pan, and has a huge crush on him, so we though DLH would be fun for the theme. I have heard GC is nicer, and the point difference for us is not too big with DVC, so maybe we'll see what's available and go from there. Thanks everyone!

We have stayed at DLH twice, first time with 2 queen beds, ok but not a large room, second time I requested 2 queens and a day bed, and it seemed much bigger. If you have small kids, DLH is best for them.

If you don't mind...how many points are DLH and GC for a weekend in a "middle" season?

For weekend points at DLH in the mid season (there are 3) it is 38/night for standard view and at GC it is 48 for standard view. We avoid weekends with DVC, so in low season at DLH standard view it is 19 points Mon - Thurs. nights which isn't too bad to us. Of course, we use 22 points in a 2BR at OKW and get a huge room at WDW, but this is DL so we expect it to cost more.

Thanks for the quick response!

We need a Ca DVC!

We are so keeping our fingers crossed! It is so hard getting to Orlando for us with 2 small kids on a long plane ride. It isn't too relaxing for DH lol! I don't mind using our points at DL, but I would really love a 1BR villa with a washer/dryer and kitchen! Here's to wishing and hoping! :wizard:

Another vote for DL DVC!:wizard:
We love DL for those quick Disney fixes.

At the DLR, it does not matter which day of the week it is, you use the same amount of points. Different seasons cost different amounts, not different days as in WDW. Also, the amount of points to stay at DLH during the "cheapest" season point wise is 23 points, not 19. Where are you getting your information?

I just booked a stay at GCH for February with our DVC points. The cancellation policy is much stricter...If you want any additional information let me know. :)

You need to look in the new 2007-2008 planner. Weekends are most definately different rates, and the points for DLH and others have been lowered. Your info is from the old planner.

Wow..I was told the points will never change when I purchased my DVC. I guess that may not apply to the Disney collection??? Sorry for the wrong information. Does this mean they will be charging me a different amount of points for the stay I booked last week? They quoted me the old rates, and I received a conformation with the correct amount of 2006 points deducted. Maybe the points did not change?

Why would they not quote me the new rates if this information is readily available?

Is there a link to this new point infoprmation you might post here.

Thank for the information. :)

I am not sure why they would use the 2006 point chart for 2007 when I received my new planner back in early September? The new point charts are probably up on the DVC member site, haven't check that yet. We were so happy to see the lower points for DL. And yes, the rule of points not changing only applies to actual DVC resorts, not DL, cruises, etc.

I found the new charts and added it up, and the points turn out to be exactly the same for us during our stay. What are the chances of that! We are paying less for the weekday nights, and more for the weekend nights, but it all adds up the same.

I am very surprised to see the points are lowest at DLH...We find the DLH to be much nicer than the PP. It also costs more when you pay cash. It doesn't make sense, but good for you, and all the DVC'ers. We tried to book the DLR before we even knew the points were lower, but it was completely sold out , so GCH it will be. Not disappointed at all with that though.

Thanks again for giving me the correct information.

Is that right??? :sad2: we are getting 2 Q and Sofabed and that's the ONLY area they have as a view??? What about Courtyard view where the monorail goes thru??
