I have made an ADR at Ohana for our first night dinner at Disney - we've enjoyed it alot the prior two visits but I've really been put off by the recent spate of bad to mediocre reviews. I can deal with meat being a bit dry but it would really spoil our dinner to have shrimp that hasn't been cleaned! I really hope those instances were the odd 'mistake' - if you have been to Ohana recently please confirm the shrimp is clean or I think we'll change our adr! Thanks!

The shrimp is peel and eat and very good. Don't know of many peel and eat shrimp places that are de-veined. This is normally only needed on jumbo size shrimp which Ohana does not have.

I did have one time where the beef was well done and dried out. I just asked our server to bring some medium rare. They did and it was perfect.

Ohana has always had good food in the 4 times we've been there.

There seems to be different experiences with the deveining on these boards. I am 99% positive our shrimp was deveined in Oct...because I'm a freak like that with checking my food.

Peel/eat shrimp are sold both veined or deveined. I buy raw, frozen, deveined, shell-on shrimp all the time. They are sliced up the back through-the-shell and cleaned out.

The shrimp were not deveined when we were there in 2009 or 2010. We just ate the other skewered meats - tastes better than shrimp anyway....

The shrimp I had in mid-December were not de-veined.

Tasted great to me. I enjoyed my meal at 'Ohana.

I have eaten at Ohana twice, once in 08, and once this past December. I cant say whether or not they were deveined, but I didn't see any green stuff as that would gross me out. I did find them extremely difficult to peel, as the shell was stuck to the shrimp and kept pulling them apart, so after a few, I just gave up (I think this is their diabolical plan!!). The ones I had were good, but just not worth the effort.

There were NOT de-veined when we ate there. The shrimp are in the shells and the shells are NOT split open for the vein to be removed. Basicly, if you look at a shrimp completely in the shell, and the shell is not split open, the shrimp are not de-veined.

We ate there in 2008 and 2009 and this was our experience both times. I even have pictures somewhere! The shell is completely intact, so they were not de-veined.

It's really not a 'vein'. It's the intestinal tract I believe, and it is definitely IN. :upsidedow

It is correct to say that the shrimp at Ohana are NOT deveined.

No peel and eat shrimp have been cleaned. It is impossible to "clean" the shrimp that is still in it's shell.

I would suggest if you made this ressie wanting shrimp and do not like to devein it at the table, you need to cancel your reservation.

Here in South Carolina I purchase bags of de-veined shrimp still in the shell. The shell is split (for de-veining purposes), but still attached to the shrimp and have to be peeled.

Yup, I buy them here in NJ too:thumbsup2.

I enjoyed the shrimp.

But Ohanas has more offerings then just shrimp so I dont know why it matters. If you dont like way they have their shrimp, simply tell them you dont want any when they bring it to you. I would certainly think you could get more then full on the rest of the meal and be satisfied.

Heck I'd go to Ohanas just for the bread pudding, but that's me!

We haven't eaten there in 2 years, but the last time we ate there, they were deveined. That's gross if the aren't.

We enjoyed the shrimp and everything else the 3 times we've eaten there.Did'nt notice if they were deveined or not;We eat crawfish, and boiled shrimp quite a bit here in Louisiana, and I can't recall ONE time that the shrimp were deveined-just very delicious!:goodvibesWe even "suck da heads"of the crawfish-that's some good eatin' there Cher!!!;)

I have heard that they are and they are not. Last time I went I didn't notice but it isn't a big deal to me. If the shrimp are a deal breaker than I would cancel the ADR and try somewhere different.

Perhaps I'm missing something here but what's the big deal with deveining the shrimp yourself? If you like shrimp it's no big deal, is it? Seems to me life is full of many "yucky" things...but feel free to cancel your ressies. The rest of us won't have to wait as long:)

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Yes, life is full of 'yucky' things but I prefer them not to be in my food!
