Are the hair dryers hot??

Those with diffucult hair like myself know how important a hair dryer is that blows really hot air. Do the hair dryers on the ship do this? Should I pack a travel dryer of my own. Are there plugs in the room for dryers?

Hot enough to dry my hair but my personal one is warmer for sure. The plug in the bathroom will not work for a hairdryer but there is one infront of the mirror in the sitting/vanity area that I use for my curling iron.

Pack your own hairdryer! The ones that are in the room are really useless - We also pack an extension cord so that we have more outlets to use - This came in quite handy!

The hairdryers onboard are VERY low-powered. Not a lot of heat, not a lot of air.

They might work okay for someone with not a lot of hair, but I've found it saves a LOT of aggravation to take my own shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer and powerstrip. (You won't be able to plug your hairdryer in in the bathroom. Take a powerstrip or extension cord, and you can sit at the desk in your stateroom to do your hair.)

I remember the hair dryer in the room being more like a cost blast of weak air. Bringing your own is the better idea. :hyper:

Another vote for bring your own. They were not the type that we are used to in the US. And I also want to mention that bringing an extension cord may be important even if you don't have a lot to plug in. For me, the hairdryer is the only thing that I planned to plug in so I didn't bother with the extension cord like I read about on these boards. Well the outlet at the vanity is so close to the vanity surface, that my bulky plug to my hairdryer wouldn't fit into the outlet! :bitelip: So, I had to use the hairdryer in the bathroom because I coudn't find another usable outlet. And the hairdryer was not very powerful at all. Fortunately (or really unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), I do not have thick hair, so it worked okay. Next time I am bringing my own hairdryer AND an extension cord! ::yes::

P.S. Good one, Jim!

Bring your own & a heavy duty extension cord. They are great for short or fine hair, but that's it.

They kinda look like vacuum cleaner hose with no attachments...

We were on the Magic in August, and I had my own hair dryer with me and never used it.

the one in our room worked just fine???

I don't have short or thin hair and found no need to plug in my own.

Maybe my dryer is an exception?????

There is an outlet behind the TV which will accomodate the bulky hairdryer plug. I ran into the same problem with the bulky plug not fitting in the outlet by the vanity in the room. I mentioned it to the cabin steward and he pointed out the outlet which was behind the TV. I found the hairdryer in the bathroom to be useless; in fact I have found the sound problem with other cruise lines too.

To give you an idea, typical hair dryers for home use are usually about 1500 to 1800 watts of power. The built in ones on DCL are 900 watts (with no 'high' fan speed setting).

linda8892 - I guess hair dryers are like children, they should be seen and not heard...

This is what my DW said when she first saw the hair dryer in the bathroom. "Look, they even have a vacuum cleaner for us to use."

Luckily for us, we all have short hair, our hair dryer was fine for us.

Both my daughter and I have long hair and we thought the hair dryer in the bathroom (just back from a four-day on the Wonder) did a perfectly good job. Variable speed, got sufficiently warm, etc. It was nice because a hair dryer would have been hard to pack and yet another item to keep up with in the stateroom.
