We are thinking about doing the DCL excursion Cozumel Beach Break. They have free drinks and food. We are traveling with a 2 year old. Is the water/ice safe to drink? What about the food . . . safe as well?

We did the Cozumel Beach Break with our oldest DD when she was only 2. We had a GREAT time. We had no problems with the food or drink (most of it was bottled water), and they know that it's all tourists. They have the beach there, and a pool too. We spent some time letting her play in the sand, then when she was ready, we had some lunch and then finished the day in the pool!! It was a lot of fun!!

When we ate at Chankanaab they served sodas in cans. We just took the lettuce and tomato off of our hamburger and it was fine.

For the most part you should be fine since they generally serve you bottled water. In all our cruises, the only time I ever had a problem was at Xcaret, when I made the mistake of drinking two servings of something called "rice water." It was delicious but must have had a "native" water base because I paid the price...thank goodness for Immodium. But for the most part, the places in Mexico are geared to serving tourists.

I haven't been to Cozumel yet, but I was just talking to my sis about this same topic, as she vacations there a lot. Her advice is to absolutely stick with bottled water no matter what. And any food washed with tap water that hasn't been cooked should be avoided. I'll be following her advice when I cruise.:thumbsup2

I had the best quesadilla and guacamole EVER in Chankanaab! (But I live in NC so it's not like I have a whole lot to compare it to...hahah) So my experience in Cozumel was good. (Belize....not so much.)

I was in Cozumel on Saturday, and I ate/drank at a couple of different places with no ill effects.

I had nachos and a margarita at El Galleon (on the eastern shore) and then I had quesadillas, coconut shrimp, and three mango daquiris at Mr. Sancho's beach club. All of the touristy spots use purified water and ice.

FWIW, DH and I ate at a roadside stand in Belize last year and it was the best meal of the entire trip. We got sick from the supper club on our ship!

We've never had a problem on any of our visits to Cozumel. I've eaten food on DCL excursions and private excursions and never had a problem. Chips and salsa are to die for. And we had the best fajita meal ever in Costa Maya.

Hmmmm.....just thinking about those meals makes my mouth water.

Of course I'm spoiled, can't find anything as good at home.

Stick to bottled water, bottled soda. Ask for no ice if you want to be super cautious.

We ate and drank anything we fancied and was fine!
Never gave it a thought

That said, we obviously would have thought twice if somewhere looked unclean

Chankanaab was spotless

And there is a Starbucks and Hard Rock cafe if you are concerned
Plus canned and bottle drinks on sale everywhere

To me it all seemed rather Un-Mexican around the Port

Hey there Ski and Sea - been a while!

I have been to Cozumel 3 times and I have to highly agree with Sea and Ski Never had any problems. This time I was in Chankanab (which is just gorgeous) and when I asked for iced tea at the bar, the bartender gave it to me in a cup with ice. I opted not to drink it altho he assured me the ice was ok. The one of locals who was at bar downed the drink, I guess trying to make a point. I just felt more comfortable have something in a can or bottle. Gotta love thos $1.00 Dos XX beers! Cozumel is by far my fave port - Mexico is really beautiful!

I think as long as you drink bottled water and/or bottled/canned soda you would be fine. I wouldnt drink anything that had ice in it.
