Are the chips at San Angel Inn (inside the pavilion) still the same ole Tostitos?

One of our biggest problems with food at San Angel Inn (one of many) is that its chips and salsa are straight out of the Tostitos bag and out of a jar. Neither are made fresh on site. We haven't eaten there in a while and were wondering if anything had changed.

As I have heard....NO. Back in the spring there were several threads all saying that no more bag chips and jar salsa.
If you do a search you may find them.

Agree with the poster above. I ate there in May and the chips did not strike me as Tostitos but rather as authentic chips. I couldn't stop eating them, they are good!

No, they are not Tostitos. They are made in-house. My friend, who is a vegan, had to ask how they are made. They are fried in oil containing lard, so she could not eat them.

Let me ask it in a different way. Are the chips round.

I never noticed their shape. They serve the same chips in Cava del Tequila. Stop there and order some if you want to check before you hit the restaurant. They're not Tostitos.

You have to pay for them in La Cava though.

I'm pretty sure when I ate there in March that they were the jagged irregular chips that you would expect out of chips made on site -- but I didn't ask. They were also not heavily salted like Tostitos, which I appreciated.

we ate there in Sept 2009, and I thought there was a chance the chips were out of a bag...although they were not salty, so maybe not. The salsa did not taste like any canned/jarred salsa I've every bought...for one thing, it was chock-full of various veggies & whatevers. It was spicy (to me--probably a "medium" on the usual range) The two people with me loved it (they like spicy) and both thought it tasted freshly made Here's a pic:

That's precisely what I recall from March of this year. Nice photo, by the way -- I like how I can see just enough of the booze menu to tempt me.

Well, if they are Tostitos, then they needlessly lied to my friend, because Tostitos corn tortilla chips are apparently vegan.
