Are Pizza and Fast Food places charging extra for Ranch Dressing in your area?

In the last year or 2, a number of pizza places (including Round Table) and places that sell things like chicken nuggets are charging extra if you want Ranch Dressing. Parmesan, and peppers, and sweet sour, BBQ, honey mustard are all still free (well, some places limit how many free you can get), but they only charge for Ranch?

What's up with that?

yep, and it sucks, just like paying for your luggage to fly, everyone is on board with charging for the extras

Our favorite pizza place does charge for Ranch, if you order it with pizza. We love putting Ranch dressing on the crust. They'll bring you a small container, maybe a half cup, with your pizza and I think it costs maybe 50 cents.

Now, at other places if you order something that a sauce would naturally go with, like chicken nuggets/wings, they don't charge. I've seen places that will charge for it if you ask for EXTRA, and I can't blame them for that. If a customer wants "more" they need to pay "more" for it.

At Pizza, Pizza...in Ontario, it costs an extra dollar if you want to buy their creamy garlic dipping sauce (but it is really good and I cannot resist)! Sometimes they offer promotions which include free sauce.

Ultimately, that sauce costs something to manufacture in raw materials and labor. When you buy chicken nuggets at McD (or other locations) they may have already built the cost of X number of dipping cups in to the original price. Above and beyond that, they are dipping in to profit margins.

Our Buffalo Wild Wings charges for Ranch and Blue Cheese. I'm not sure if that's in line with what you're talking about. I haven't paid much attention at local fast food restaurants, but I haven't been charged just for Ranch over some other type of sauce.

Maybe it's a local supply and demand issue? Is it a recent change?

Extra stuff? Yes. For example we used to get the garlic dipping sauce at Dominos with the breadsticks. They gave you 1 and charge you for extras.

NO exta charge here unless I want extras. BWW charges for Ranch or blue cheese on Wing Tues or Thurs otherwise included in price.

OH MY!! That is too funny...I am a lunch lady in a middle school and I have to personally hand out the ranch packets to the kids if they want them because when I had it over with all the other dressings and ketchup I would go through a case in 2 days and my boss said either hand them out or we will stop getting it!

and yes...it seems all the kids put ranch on pizza

It is in the last 2 years or so. But going on Amazon.com, looking at food service packaged condiments, while Ranch is more expensive than other condiments, it isn't that much more expensive. The packet of Ken's Ranch Dressing that Round Table charges 75 cents for costs 38 cents. At close to $20 a pizza, I would think they had enough profit built in to cover 38 cents!
However, the mom and pop place I went to does advertise their Ranch has home made.........now exactly how home made it is I don't know. If they are just adding buttermilk to powdered ranch dressing, or if they are making it from scratch, I don't know.

We have a local restaurant that charges extra for any extra dressing. And I've seen some of the fast food places charging if you don't get nuggets. But other than that I haven't seen extra charges for ranch. i would end up spending a lot of money on ranch (and extra!).

Our local zoo actually has a giant tub of ranch that you can put in the little cups along with ketchup, mustard, etc at their inside restaurants.

I have never been to a pizza place that charges extra for the first container. They charge you if you want more than one container but that first one is included with the cost.

However, we do have a local burger joint that charges extra for sauce for your fries, which sucks since their food cost so much to begin with. They have really good food so i will eat there once a year or so but the cost is so much it keeps me from eating there more.

Do you have Round Table Pizza where you live? They were the first here to start charging for Ranch, even for the first container.

In my area it's customary to put catalina or french dressing on pizza. Started years ago at a specific restaurant and caught on. Now even dominos automatically brings packets with your pizza. Haven't ordered in ages so I don't know if they charge now

shhh...don't tell my kids that.. I will soon have to start rationing the French too!! LOL

I'd never seen ranch on pizza till I saw students do it at school. I thought it was because school pizza isn't very good.

BBQ sauce with pizza was always my favourite. Drizzled and baked right on the top and pesto is also good like that.

This reminds me of a story.

When I was 8 or 9, my brother (6 or 7 at the time) went to lunch with my Grandpa and Great Uncle. We went to a local restaurant. When the bill came, my Uncle noticed that the waitress had charged him an extra $0.10 for onion on his hamburger. He completely flipped his lid about how ridiculous this was! He threw enough of a fit that my Grandpa handed him a dime and told him to "shut the h*** up!" I will never forget it as long as I live!
