Are pins sold in the parks different from pins sold at DTD and other WDW spots?

Looking to get a pin for every ride that my kids have ridden on. When last looking around the World of Disney store, as well as the Pin trading area in DTD, they hardly had any selection for ride-based pins.

Do the stores in the parks have a different selection of pins for sale compared to the World of Disney stores, or other pin trading areas/stores outside of the parks? Will they have pins for the individual rides in that particular park?

I have just been researching ride pins as this is one area of my pin collection. I found that not every ride has a pin. Your best bet I would imagine would be to look in the shop at the end of a ride if it has one, look in the pin trading shops in each park or look in Pin Traders at DTD. I think the pin trading store in DTD carries the full selection of WDW pins, so if a ride had a pin I would imagine you would find it there.

If the DTD pin trading area has the most selection, then there must not be many ride pins at all. I saw maybe 10 ride pins in total, at least for sale (i didn't look at what the pin traders themselves had). I guess I'll try my luck next time in the gift shops outside the rides.

I'd check at the main pin trading center of the park of the ride you're looking for.

Put the ride name into the search engine at PinPics, then you can see if there ever was a pin for that ride and if there's a pin now.

That is exactly what I did so I could write a wants list for my trip next month. That was when I discovered a lot of the non E ticket rides do not have pins.

Back to your other question. Yes, the stores in the parks have different inventories from DTD. Even stores within the parks may have different inventories, so that if you are in Magic Kingdom and out at Frontierland's pin store, they may tell you they don't carry it, but the Uptown Jewelers does. Best thing to do is go to the CM with a picture of the pin you want and ask questions. Some of them are very knowledgeable.
