Are only Wishes brides allowed sugar/pastry based floral on their cakes?

I know this is an odd question, but is sugar/pastry floral only allowed on Wishes wedding cakes? I am seriously confused here because I thought Escape brides could change/modify their cakes for a fee, but I'm being told by my WC that the only option I have is fresh floral.

I've seen a ton of cakes here with sugar/pastry flowers so I know Disney makes these. Does anyone know the answer to this? Any Escape brides had or are having sugar/pastry based floral? I don't understand this. :confused3

I do not think that's a thing. Have you made it clear that you are prepared to pay $$$ for the upgrade? Because an elaborate, fondant-covered 2-tier cake could cost $500 or more, depending on what you're looking for. It could be that the price of what you are asking for is so high, your coordinator is trying to provide you less expensive alternatives.

Well I asked her what the cost of sugar flowers would be on my cake and sent in a picture of what we wanted. The original design they were unable to replicate, but they were able to do something pretty similar. I was quoted for fresh floral on it. I again asked about the sugar and tried to describe the look we were hoping to achieve. I was told Disney purchases their flowers premade and that I would be unable to have a floral top on my cake and they only come with green leaves attached. I was left confused by this because Disney seems to be able to make such extravagant cakes and yet I left it as is because I couldn't recall seeing sugar/pastry based flowers on any cakes.

I got a rough estimate of our budget and the cake floral was described as "Roses" which is not what I wanted, so I came on the board to find a picture to give them a better idea of what I wanted. It was then I found tons of cakes with sugar/icing/pastry flowers like I had asked about and told Disney didn't do.

I emailed my planner and let her know we had seen many cakes posted on this board with sugar/pastry flowers and could she please explain why it wasn't available for our cake.

At this point I'm wondering if the way we originally asked was wrong and thinking surely we will get that as a response. Nope I get that they were probably Wishes cakes?!? So that is why I thought perhaps only Wishes brides could order a cake with sugar/pastry flowers. I'm beyond confused.

The reason I'm trying to get fake over real floral is because I've had cakes before with fresh floral and some of the fragrant flowers seem to leave a taste which I am not fond of. Perhaps this isn't even something I should worry about since they peel the fondant off...

Thanks for responding. I think I've been very clear in what I've asked for but perhaps I may try one more time. I just didn't want to push the matter if this was a known rule.

I would send them some pictures of what it is you want. That is my plan when I finally complete my paperwork. There will be a set of photos with THIS IS WHAT I WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE and THIS IS THE CORRECT COLOUR. I think this will be the best way forward.

Where is your event taking place? If it's not at the Wedding Pavilion, then the Grand Floridian Bakery (which makes all the Wishes cakes) won't be making your cake. The other bakeries on property do not have the same resources and often can't do designs that are as elaborate as the GF's (that would explain the premade flowers vs. handmade ones at the GF). So if, say, your event is at Sea Breeze Point, the pastry chef at BoardWalk Bakery may be telling your planner that it's simply not possible to replicate the inspiration picture you sent.

If this is the case and it's really important to you, see if they will let you pay a delivery fee to have your cake made by the GF bakery and delivered to your ceremony.

Alternatively, yes—if your cake is covered in fondant, you can peel it off to reveal the buttercreamy goodness underneath. I think that would probably take care of any lingering taste imparted by fresh flowers (and I totally know what you mean—that and butter that has picked up other flavors by sitting in the fridge make me :crazy2: )
