Are Nintendo DS's still cool?

I'm trying to figure out what to get DD14 for Christmas. I saw sales on the Nintendo DS's and games for tomorrow. She was asking for one of these back during the summer, but I haven't heard her mention it in a few months. My 16 year old sister and her 16 yo boyfriend said that they are still cool, and they'd like to have one.

Are these still "cool" or will she be too totally embarrassed to use it? I don't want to spend $100 on something "dorky." Please help me out!

well i have one and i'm 22, and my DF has one and he's almost 26. and all of his little cousins were running around with them today. so i think they're still "Cool"

I'm buying two of them tomorrow for my boys (age 9 and 11) and I know that I'm buying a game for myself to use. It's called Brain Age. Seems like something I would love to play.

Make sure it's the DS Lite. The regular DS is the older version.

I'm not sure that the regular DS was ever cool. However, the NEWER DS Lite is just about the coolest thing ever! And it plays regular DS games as well as old gameboy games!

The color versions of the DS Lite just came out this Sept. They are still very cool, avoid the white, and go with a black or pink one. The DS Lite is smaller and has brighter screens than the older DS and plays all the same games.

So, a DS...meh. A DS Lite, COOL! Or so say the kids I know.

Definitely get her the pink DS Lite.
I see kids AND adults playing them whenever I am at the airport.

Both DFi and I have one. And we're in our 30's.

Mario Kart DS is an incredible game....what's really neat is that you can race against another person with a DS...wirelessly (is that a word?)...

"mom, dad won't give me back my DS again...."

Just so everyone knows, the older regular DS also plays the Gameboy Advance games in addition to the DS games.

Yes, the DS and DS Lite will play all Gameboy Advance games. The only older games the DS series will not play are the Gameboy Color games. The large cartridge games. So, if you have and play any of those, hang onto your GB Advance or SP.

the DS lite is the way to go. The screen is much brighter so not as much eye strain.

OMG! We got DD a DS Lite Pink at Circuit City! It was the last one. An employee had found it on a shelf and she was taking it to lock it back in the cabinet. We got it!

Hey mono~rail, we got a white one this morning the same way...a clerk asked me if I was looking for one and placed it in my loving hands, lol! Then a customer came over and handed me an accessorie pack that was free with purchase as he had not been able to get a DS!

My son plays with his DS lite all the time (maybe too much in fact). My DD still plays with her DS but not as much as my son.

My son got upgraded to the 'lite" version when he left his DS in his jeans and I washed it! Some of you may remember that thread!
