How Cool do they make you and can you feel any heat or just a little amount of heat? Should I get them? I remember that I once saw this commercial about some type of cooling thing that you put around your neck to keep you cool but it is not a wrap. Its called the Personal Cooler Deluxe:

Should I get that and would that be better than a neck wrap?

based on my experience, neck wraps are useless. based on comments that I've seen from others, the personal cooling devices are also useless... :smooth:

I take disposable ice packs (about $1.00) from the bandaid/first aid section. Squeeze to activate, place on neck to cool down and then throw away when done. DGS places it in on his head under his ball cap.

My family and I went to DW last July and my wife brought "Cool Downz" wraps that she got from QVC. It's activated when you run it under cool water. Twenty minutes before we left for the parks in the morning, we would soaked them in a bucket of ice water and put them in ziplock bags until the hot afternoon. It certainly helped keeping you cool when the sun was beating down on the back of your neck.

We had all of these at one time or another except the personal cooler deluxe. The best thing to do is to buy ice water. This is really the only thing that truly works. It replenishes fluids and keeps you going.

From all I have read here over the years, the neck coolers (mechanical as linked) are useless, the neck wraps are great (MANY positive threads over the years). From personal experience, the neck wraps are great, they do work, VERY well. And inexpensive, in the Walmart camping section, a couple bucks.

We used the neck wrap things last June when we went and liked them. I thought they really helped. But, there was a bit of an ick factor in that you feel like there is stuff on your neck from wearing them. They were easy to recharge running them under a fountain in the parks. I found on the really humid days, they needed to be recharged more often.

One thing to be aware of, they take for ever to dry out completely. I put them in a zip lock back to bring him and then hung them in the laundry room. It took over a week before all the moisture was gone. :rotfl:

Itried one at home before our trip and I didn't like that feeling of an icky neck. Then after I dried the neck wrap out, it stunk like mildew. EWW I brought our trusty fans filled with iced water and we were fine.

Since I was a little kid I've had a lot of problems with extreme heat, so I've tried everything. I like the neck wraps, but I agree with another post about fans.

Pick up a squirt bottle/fan at WalMart for a few bucks (less than half the price you'll pay at WDW), fill it up with ice and water at your hotel, and by the time you hit the parks, you'll have wonderful, cold water at your disposal.

Throughout the day, we ask for a cup of ice at restaurants and replenish the ice to keep it really cool.

I've heard bad stories about those personal cooling systems. They're expensive and according to many, don't work. A fan and a neck wrap will cost you probably less than $10 and really help.

Good luck!
