I'm sitting here kind of flabbergasted at the nerve of people who would expect you to contribute financially to a party that you are not throwing, is not for you, your DH, or some other family member that you might wish to throw/contribute toward a party. Do these people think that just because you are a friend, that you want to pay for their husbands' party???? Why would they think that?????
I think your idea is a good one. Tell them you'd be happy to make something, happy to help them set up, happy to bring a gift, but as far as splitting the actual cost of the party...you won't be able to do that.
