Are Labor Day Crowds really bad?

I'm getting mixed predictions from crowd predicting websites. Any experience here?

We want to take my 4y/o nephew on his first trip to DL. We don't have to do "everything," but we want it to be a magical experience.

I know the marathon is that weekend. Are the crowds usually terrible on Labor Day Monday? I can't decide if I want to go on Monday (Labor Day) so we don't have to take a day off work or go on Tuesday (next day). I've never been on Labor Day, but I've been during Spring Break on a day the park closed due to crowds. That was miserable - it was wall to wall people. I've also been on summer weekdays that can be fairly crowded, but not so that you can't move. How does Labor Day compare?

Labor Day itself is not so bad because most non-locals are heading home in time for work/school on the Tuesday. I definitely wouldn't expect it to close due to crowding!
