I will be coming to universal studios and islands of adventure in late August of next year (2013) and was wondering if the express passes are available to buy in this month? Also do people think they are worth the money?

Express passes are always available to buy. Don't buy them until you get there and check out the crowds. They can be purchased at most stores within the parks.

You should never purchase EPs prior to visiting the parks as they are date specific and non-refundable...especially almost a year in advance. If you purchase now and something happens before your trip, you are out the money. You should always wait until you arrive to see what the lines are like before purchasing the EP.

Just back from a quick UO/WDW trip, SEP 2012.

Only had one day for Universal, a Sunday on Labor Day weekend. I figured we would wait to buy the Express Passes. Checking out the crowd level once we were at the park.

We arrived about 11AM, straight from the airport, to find Despicable Me with a 70 minute wait. OK - off to buy the Express Passes! Yes sir, you can buy them here, $69 each...ouch!

Knew the parks would be a bit busy on a holiday weekend, wish I had bought the Passes online, they were $55.

So we overpaid by $28. At least most everything was a walk on, including Forbidden Journey (which does not accept the Express Pass).

If you get to the parks at opening and do the headliners right away, the crowds are much less.

While it's true Express Plus pass prices do change depending on the anticipated crowd levels, I still would not chance spending that kind of money on something this far out. Again...if you spend the money and then have to cancel, you're out way more than price increase between now and the travel dates.

Just something to think about.
