I really need a new vacuum - I have been doing a lot of research and I am thinking about splurging and buying a Dyson ($400+)
I have gone through 2 "inexpensive" HEPA filter vacuums in the past 4 years. We have an indoor dog & cat and I vacuum a lot.
I have read some reviews of the Dyson saying that it is overrated but I have spoken to several owners who LOVE theirs.
Any opinions out there? Costco has a Dyson I might buy this weekend.

Run! Don't walk to Costco!

You will LOVE the Dyson!!! I can't imagine having another type of vacuum. It is the only vacuum that I've tried that I can use on both my wall to wall, area rugs and on my hardwood without it denegrating in power or suction.

We have had ours for about 2 years now. That's a record for vacuums in our house as we have 2 pugs that shed like there is no tomorrow.

Let me know how you like yours when you get it.

Dyson vacuums are great!! I bought one this summer,
and the suction is so powerful. I like it better than
our central vacuum. The last vacuum I purchased
was also $400, (Oreck) and didn't hold up very well.

Thanks for asking the question hookedup, I am looking at those too! We have two dogs, one being a Sheltie, so I need one that will pick mega dog hair. I am anxious to hear what everyone thinks of them.

ADW, I also had an Oreck and won't do that again.

I was wondering about the Dyson's too. We've been thinking about getting one. We have two 70lb MEGA shedders.

Oooh! I'd love to have a Dyson too. $400 seems like so much money.

Maybe some day.

My girlfriend has a dyson, and she LOVES it! Said it is the best vacuum she ever had! She has a lab and said it works wonders on the hair.

Thanks for all the responses, it sounds like everyone likes them (at least so far)!

I was wondering, which one you were looking at, or have?

There is the DC07-Yellow and the DC14-Purple.....Which do you prefer? They both come in a "dog hair" version, so I was just wondering!

LOL! I swear I was going to post this exact topic!! Our current vacuum is going downhill, and I too am very interested in the Dyson.

My question for you Dyson owners is this... Could you explain the way that the canister works/how well and easy it is to empty out the dirt?

The vacuum we have now is bagless, and when I go to empty the contents, it is always very staticy, and the dust sticks to everything...makes for messy dumping. Plus, I have to either bang it on the trash can, or take a paper towel and wipe the inside of the canister to get all the dust out of it. SUCH a pain!! So, I want to know just how easy it is to empty the dirt out of the Dyson canister??

There must be something in the air - lol. I clean my moms house once a week and her vac just died and she told me she wants one of those Dysons.

Good to hear the reviews on it!

Not a Dyson here, but an Oreck. I just remarked a few days ago to Marie, as we were watching family videos from '86, and our Oreck, which seems brand new today, was in them. 18 years ago. And we have had one Siberian Huskie and one Rottweiler in those years, plus two kids, LOL.

Another huge fan of the Dyson here. I love it. Just a FYI, you know those Linen and Things 20% coupons that always come in the sunday paper, it is good on the Dyson at the store. My SIL just used one. I bought mine at Cosco.

Our Linen's and Things coupon specifically excludes the dyson. Be sure to read the fine print.

I posted this question on the Community Board years ago and no one could figure out what I was talking about. Dyson was not a household name at that time.
I then posted the question on the UK board and got a few friendly responses.
So I went ahead and purchased the Animal.
Two words describe my feelings....
LOVE IT!
You won't regret the purchase!

My 75 year old mom has Dyson's "Animal" and she loves it! She said she's never had a vacuum that cleans as well as this one.

I just ripped up the coupon I received in today's mail...and I need a vacuum! :faint:

Have you visited Dyson's web site? There are some models that work well on carpeting and others that don't.

I just posted another thread about this today too! I need something to deal with the big hairy dog and 2 small hairy cats! I have never paid that much for a vaccume but if it works I am game to give it a try!

My wife has long hair and we have three cats (one of those is a long hair) and no vacume we've owned has been able to keep up with our houshold hair-shedding problem... until our Dyson. If you're getting one, get the Dyson Animal, it's worth every penny.
