My child would love to be part of a parade or some other special activity at Disney. Does this ever happen? If so, is it total luck of the draw or is there somewhere you ask, sign up or what? I think I've heard of someone getting to pull the sword out of the stone or what other opportunities are there? If it is a special thing like their birthday can you ask to do something like this somewhere? Thanks in advance.

There were a few spontaneous (and I mean completely spontaneous and right place right time things) times where the kids were "picked" to do stuff. In the MK, the 12 year old was invited to square dance randomly one afternoon in Adventurland with a ton of other people. At AK we saw FOTLK (a favorite) and the 10 year old (who is in a wheelchair) was invited to play some music and dance at the end (I thought she would burst from excitement at that point). Also at AK the older one got to play the African drums (dont know the whole story, I was taking the younger one to the restroom). These weren't parades but cute opportunities to be involved in the magic! :Pinkbounc

We were waiting for a parade to start in MK during the 25 yr celebration and both my children were asked to participate, but they refused. They were both shy when they were little. We were sitting in front of the castle when a CM came up and asked them. :flower:

Yea, during the 25 year celebration, CMs were handing out stickers with either Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid on them, and when the float came near you, they called out either the Beauty and the Beast kids or the Little Mermaid kids. It was a little game where "Be Our Guest" was playing (for Beauty and the Beast) and the kids had to put all the plates, napkins, and utensils on the tables and then do the can can. :rotfl:

The kids are sometimes asked to come in the street before the parade to play games. It helps the time pass faster. But at least for the MK, no kids are actually in parade. Sword in the some is random. How old is your child and boy or girl.

they used to pull kids out of the crowd during the daytime parade. my nephew was picked in jan. '03....they did a little 'skit' type thing with wendy and the lost boys. i got it on video!

i think they stopped doing it for safety reasons after a cm was killed by a float.

We've never had the luck to be pulled out for the parades. But dd7 does have a girl on her cheerleading team that was picked to ride on one of the floats in the parade. She also got picked for something else but I can't remember what it was. It's just pure luck, being in the right place at the right time. DD would love it if she got picked.

:cheer2: 20 days and counting
:earsgirl: princess:

On our first trip in September 2003, during the afternoon parade at MK, with all of the princesses they had other CM's dressed up who came and picked many small girls out of the crowd to go and "meet" the princesses (they were in the "snow globes"). From being tired that day, we happened to sit down early where the parade starts and DD got picked, she was 4 and thought it was neat, meanwhile, I was practically crying thinking oh this is such a great memory!

My cousin (i think she was 10 at the time) was picked to be in the MK parade about 3 years ago. She and my aunt were just sitting around toward the Castle end of Main Street waiting for the parade to start, when a CM came up and asked if she wanted to be in the parade (of course she said yes!). She got to ride on one of the floats with the princesses and got to wear a princess dress. She has all the luck! :earboy2:

During the 25th celebration, our very 1st Disney trip in 1997, my oldest dd (3yrs old) got picked to be in the MK parade! She danced holding hands with Cinderella and Prince Charming... Priceless!
I didn't have a digital camera back then, but someday I'll sit down and scan them to the 'puter.

I got picked a long time ago. It was 1991, I think, at the Easter parade. We have it on video.

There are several things your child could be picked for. At the MK: There is the Sword in the Stone show where a child is picked at random to "pull" the sword out of the stone in Fantasyland. There is the Frontierland Hoedown where people (adults and children) are picked at random to dance a square dance with the dancers, and then everyone does the Hokey Pokey. There are different times for this- either morning or afternoon on different days. There are also little things like Waking Tinkerbell at Tink's Treasures in Fantasyland, opening other stores and magical moments. As for parades, no MK parades have people picked for anything other then the Grand Marshalls for the day parade. DCT used to pick people for the parade, but then they stopped that after a tragic accident in Feb. 2004 killed a parade CM. For AK: there is the FOTLK where they pick children during the show to march around during the finale. And people are picked at random for the Jammin Jungle Parade. Not too sure about Epcot and MGM, but I'm sure there are things there too. But for most of the things, it is random and just being in the right spot and the right time. Good luck!
