Are bed guards/rails available ?

Just wondered if anyone knew or had used one. My DS is 3 (only just) when we go and it will be his first time in a bed I have bought a new "travel" bedrail to take with us but it is extremely heavy so I wondered if there were any available in the hotels (Cheyenne) and at what cost if any. I've read about cots but can't see a mention about rails

Don't think they do them. There shd be a couple of chairs in the hotel room. You could always put them against the bed as a bedguard. That's what we did when we went on holiday elsewhere.

We'll be doing this as well when we go in December. The rooms in HNY are bigger, so I don't think we'll be able to push the beds against the wall like we did in Sequoia last time.

Thanks for the info, and the suggestion about the chairs, thats really useful I think we might try that then rather than taking the guard as it is very heavy and DH doesn't fancy trekking it all the way to DLRP

We took our travel bedguard and DD1 (3.5 years) STILL fell out of the bed with it in - reason being she was in a double bed (possibly even a bit larger?) and it doesn't have the width on it for that underneath IYSWIM!!! So, we kept the bedguard up and ended up jamming it against the bed with our suitcases (against the wall too) - we had a right palaver but she kept falling out so we had no choice - mind you she's hyperactive (I'm not kidding) and even in her sleep doesn't stay still

The chairs may be a good idea but wouldn't have worked for our DD - she would have just 'worked' them away from the bed!!!!!

we had same dilemma when we went last month...in the end we bought a winnie the pooh 'my first ready bed' to take with us. It was about £25 from amazon, really light and has its own carry bag and pump took an extra blanket and dd was snug as a bug!!!

I'm not sure of the answer to this because I did request them at Davy Crockett in February and was told I could have them. They never materialised and the bunks at DCR wouldn't have been able to accomodate them anyway, so I don't know if this is why they weren't there or if they just don't exist.

Hmmm thanks for that, we're staying in the Cheyenne, so it will be bunks so it seems a hassle to carry the heavy guard all the way just to find out that it won't fit. I like the idea of the readybed though, that might be worth it, it's not heavy so might do the trick

The bunks at DCR are quite heavy wooden ones, and the ladder is about a 1/3 of the way down from the pillow end so it acts as a kind of bedrail anyway IYSWIM. Our DD was not quite 3 and she didn't fall out, although we did put the spare bedding on the floor just in case. I'm sorry I haven't stayed in the Cheyenne - perhaps someone who has could tell you if the bunks are a similar design? Then maybe you could just ask for a couple of extra pillows if they are and put them on the floor.

We just got back from the Cheyenne yesterday. The top bunk has a bedrail inbuilt but only 6 year olds upwards can go on the top. We had a travel cot for our baby and ended up pushing that against the side of the bed for our older child - it's a bit flimsy but acted as a bedguard of sorts. Travel cots are free to request so you could ask for one of those.
