Are any of you running or have any of you run the NY Marathon?

I'm a little curious about logistics. I didn't realize the race started so late in the day.

How do you handle fueling on a race where you might need to leave your hotel or home before 5am and not start running till after 10?

I ran it last year. I don't remember what time I ate dinner-wise the night before but I think it was around 6:30 or so and had a chicken breast and baked potato.

I was in Wave 4/last wave, so I started at 10:55. There were a few corner stores that had delis in them so I picked up another grilled/cold chicken breast that I threw in the fridge. B/c it was a heavier food than a bagel, I ate that when I left the room at 5:45/6. I had so many nerves going I think I only had about 1/2 of it and ate it as I was walking to the subway and ferry. Once I got on the ferry and the staging area I had a bagel. Brought 2 just in case, but only ate 1. I also had a gu and 3-4 chomps around 10. Didn't have any problems on the run hunger-wise and just did my normal gus and chomps. There were also people handing out pretzels I think in Queens and some kids handing out oranges in Brooklyn. But don't really remember if anything else was handed out.

Good luck and have fun! It is an awesome race and can't wait to get back there next year.

Thanks Kim. That makes me feel better. Bringing bagels is a good idea.
