Are American Eagle sizes big? Small? Average?

Hi guys!

Quick question! I'm buying a pair of jeans and a shirt for my little cousin whose birthday is soon and I'm getting them online for her. I know that she generally wears a size 6 in womens clothing for bottoms and a small for tops. Can anyone tell me whether AE fits bigger than average, smaller than average or if I should just go with the 6 and small shirt?

well my 12 year old is all of about 70 pounds. She generally wears a 0 in womens. In AE she is a medium in hoodies. She can get away with smalls in tanks ect.
I don't buy bottoms here for her because I think she's too small for them at this point.

I would stick with her regular size though in the jeans(My son 15 wears the cargos and it's always the size he normally wears)

The sizes on both run pretty standard - at least they do for me. For a few of their shirts, I've had to size up.. but only because they can be a little constricting in the chest area. For most people though, the tops probably fit like any other store.

Thanks, guys! I think I'm going to go with her regular sizes. I'm in Canada so I don't know if that makes sizing any different? But I doubt it does. Off to place to order!
